Yeah, Black got a great performance from RDj, but he got it as Tony Stark and he didnt at all want to get it as Iron Man.
It wasnt a bad film, but it didnt feel like a Marvel Studios film.
Still very bitter, and worse, still feel totally trolled.

Something else that bothered me {Spoiler}{Spoiler}It's obvious the other Avengers are mentioned in the movie. So, how come none of them even bothered to help Tony out, or at least avenge him when he is presumed dead?

Something about being at home and their tights needing a wash?

I just read the spoilers for this film, and I can already tell you it's a horrible piece of garbage I refuse to ever watch.
WTF did they do to the Mandarin?! This is bullcrap. There's taking liberties with the source material, and then there is flat out not giving a crap! Every hack invloved in writing this movie belongs on the unemployment line for this rubbish!

Iron Man 1 and 2 were good movies with lackluster final battles.
Iron Man 3 was a lackluster movie with a good final battle.

Come on, at least give it a watch before declaring it "garbage". But yeah, I just got home from seeing it, and I really, really liked it. The twist didn't bother me and it was a good story with a lot of funny moments. RDJ was great as always and the tie-in to the first film was a nice touch.

I'll accept that, and I shall insert my foot into mouth as compensation to those who may have been saddened or angered by my wording. Here's an excerpt from my friend though, he's very butthurt about it. "It was more of a Tony Stark film rather than an Iron Man film." Iron Man 3 is way personal, a movie about a man who gets displaced from his usual habitat and makes due, then learned who he is in the process. A+.

"Butthurt" is a strong and frankly obnoxious term, but people being legitimately upset over filmmakers not showing "the proper respect" to The Mandarin is also a little much.

Agreed, and I actually felt like it was a better implementation of what The Dark Knight Rises did. Sure, there was more emphasis on Tony Stark, but he's a solid enough character that it worked. Also, better final battle.

Let's put it this way: Would the general movie-going public, most of whom might not follow comics closely, even care if a certain character's aspects are altered in such dramatic ways to fit the narrative of the movie?

Everyone laughed when it happened, from what I could tell when I saw it. I didn't expect anyone to walk out or anything, but it didn't really seem like a big deal.

Not at the screening I went to. I was in a theater full of college students (myself included), and nobody that I'm aware of had no idea about that character or made any fuss about it. Like I said earlier, would I have been upset if I was more familiar with Iron Man lore? Maybe. But I'm not, and I ended up liking the twist.

I've seen it a couple of times in this thread and plenty on Twitter, so can someone explain to me where the notion of Shane Black having disdain for Iron Man comes from?

Still haven't seen the movie but I had to throw my two cents in on the whole Mandarin debate. {Spoiler}With it being revealed that the Mandarin is really an actor...who's to say that he's not still acting when he starts feeding Stark info about Killian? He could fully be playing Killian letting him think he's in charge. Get Stark close, get him to trust you...then wham. Hit him like he's never been hit before.
That or we might not have seen the true Mandarin yet.

No director would invest so much of his time into making a movie that he hated. He'd simply pass.

Replace Tony Stark with Peter Parker and Iron man with Spider-man and that's how I generally feel about all the Spider-man films.
