I like it to a degree. The original Extremis tech was cool and fit the character, however his current Bleeding Edge armor is just ridiculous. He's basically a cyborg at this point.

Walt Disney Co. said Monday it will co-produce its next "Iron Man" movie with a Chinese partner in Hollywood's latest effort to forge closer ties with China's fast-growing film industry.

"Iron Man 3," starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle, will begin filming this year, Walt Disney and its Chinese partner DMG Entertainment said. They said DMG will jointly produce the movie in China but gave no indication what parts might be filmed in this country.

"We know Chinese audiences love Iron Man. So we are going to add Chinese elements and a Chinese story into Iron Man 3," Disney's general manager for Greater China, Stanley Cheung, said at a news conference.

Disney and Beijing-based DMG said the Chinese company will invest in "Iron Man 3" but gave no details.

"This cooperation will be very important to both countries, China and the United States," said Dan Mintz, DMG's CEO and a cofounder. "This film will be shot together with Chinese partners."

Honestly I do not see what the big issue is about The Mandarin. In his original incarnation yes, the character was a "racist charicature" as Shane Black said it. But he has not been portrayed in that light in well over thirty years now. John Favreau even said he intended to re-imagine the character to "incorporate the whole pantheon of villains." I.e. the Mandarin is not an evil Chinese commie, but rather he is a villain bent on world domination who just so happens to be Chinese. And anymore he is portrayed more as Mongolian than Chinese anyway, so what is the big freaking deal?

Guy Pearce is in final talks to join Marvel Studios and Disney's "Iron Man 3" as the geneticist Aldrich Killian.

In the books, Killian co-created the Extremis technology that Iron Man adopts after Killian sells it to terrorists.

THOR 2 isn't the only Marvel sequel adding an additional villain today now that Ashley Hamilton looks to be joining the now-in-production IRON MAN 3 as Firepower/Jack Taggert, the pilot of an experimental armored suit under Project: Firepower who then turns around and does battle with Iron Man using the suit, according to Variety. Firepower does not factor at all into the Extremis story arc that IRON MAN 3 is said to be borrowing heavily from, so how big of a role this would be is not yet known.

For those of you wondering where you may have seen Ashley Hamilton before, well, he's the son of actor George Hamilton and stepson of Rod Stewart... but, if that doesn't ring a bell, perhaps you saw him competing on the ninth season of DANCING WITH THE STARS, where he was eliminated first, or as a correspondant for the entertainment magazine show EXTRA.

In other IRON MAN 3 news, Jon Favreau has closed a deal to reprise his role as Tony Stark's bodyguard Happy Hogan, per The Hollywood Reporter, so, even though Shane Black has taken over the director's chair after Favreau's departure from the franchise, there's still room for him to return on-screen.

And thanks to the Avengers Marvel has increased the budget of Iron Man 3 from $140 million to $200 million.

So, any ideas on what role Ben Kingsley will play? If this is supposed to be about the Extremis thing, I'm guessing Mallen is the villain, but ol' Ben doesn't look much like him. Perhaps a secondary villain?

At the end of the day you've got a picture being partly produced by a Chinese company, filming in China, who's going to take the chance of trying to sell them a flick where the Americans hand possibly the only notable Chinese character his ass?

Y'know, I really don't have high hopes for this movie. Think Iron Man 2's the weakest of the Avengers movies as it is - still alright, but not the best - and an inexperienced director probably won't be helping much.

Shane Black has the same amount of experience that Joss Whedon had before he got The Avenger's directing gig - more or less. So I doubt that will be a problem.

Yeah, I was really looking forward to that, but it's a tough sell. IM has established a fairly realistic feeling to it, even with the events of Avengers softening the blow with aliens. It would have been very cool, either way.

I guess that Kingsley will be connected to the 10 Rings terrorist organization from the first movie.

can't say I'm surprised. as much as Bendis tried, Norman Osborne's never going to be anything other than a Spider-man villain (and that's how it should be IMO).
