On one hand I dunno if I really want a darker, more serious Iron Man movie. On the other, after the disappointment of 2 a change of pace is desperately needed, so who knows. {Spoiler}Any word on if they're still using that stupid almost entirely gold suit, though? Because that thing looks hideous. If they match the tone of the first movie, it should be good. {Spoiler}Looks like he's wearing two suits with more gold than red. The suit he's wearing in the scene after the house blows up and he's sliding down looks almost entirely gold but it was hard for me to see.
Also, was the silver Mark II suit that became the War Machine armor among the ones being blown up?

That spoiler makes me like the idea of the film a bit more. I'm still not sold after the debacle that was #2, but that's pretty funny stuff.

{Spoiler}That twist doesn't really bother me all that much. It's a rather interesting concept, really. Also, "Mandarin Twist" sounds like a new flavor for a fruit drink or something.

Soooooo,I just read a big Iron Man 3 spoiler... That honestly hurts my excitement for the film quite a bit............ Now I'm not sure I'll even see it until it hits the dollar theatre near me. Dead serious.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Yeah, I think that's pretty smart for a villain to do, actually. If you think about it more than just "Oh, we don't get to see a battle between Mandarin and Iron Man", it's a pretty clever twist. Also, is it really going to "alienate and annoy" anyone aside from the super-hardcore fans?

Well, I went to a midnight screening tonight and...disappointing. Was really hyped for this movie, and it completely deflated me. Spoilery reasons below {Spoiler}{Spoiler}That twist you're talking about. I've never read a comic book in my life, but I don't need to to say it killed the film dead. The Mandarin is super effective when he's briefly used beforehand, really charismatic & even creepy at times, and I really wanted to see more of him. Killian & the Extremis guys just seemed like crappy henchmen, and when they were unveiled as the main villains I actually sighed. So, so disappointing because the film was really shaping up to be good until then. Also, some stuff just sort of...happens at the end of the film. No real rhyme, reason or explanation, and it's just a bit confusing. You'll see what I mean when you see it

Saw it yesterday and liked it a hell of a lot more than 2. {Spoiler}But I'm not big on the Mandarin reveal. It really reeks of a bad bait and switch, especially considering h big the character is in the Iron Man mythos. But there's more than enough there to enjoy, and the way it goes down there is the possibility of the real Mandarin being revealed in a later installment.

As a casual fan who doesn't read the comics, the plot twist isn't particularly an issue for me (though it is something of a headscratcher). I've got tickets booked for this evening, so I shall post my thoughts later.

I've thought about it more since last night, and seeing the TV spot today confirmed it - I personally thought Iron Man 3 sucked. The spoiler talked about above REALLY bugged me, I even had to look up to see if it happened in the comics. Why would anyone think it would make sense? It's really good up until that point but damn does it just kill the film dead in my eyes, and the ending was rushed & bleh.
I do seem to be in the minority though, and of course people will have their own opinions but to me personally, I'd take the extended Avengers trailer that was Iron Man 2 over this any day of the week.

To give some people some perspective, it would be like if they did that with the Joker in a Batman movie or Dr. Doom in a Fantastic Four movie, or Luthor in a Supeman one. He's a definitive foe and long-standing rival, and one of the stronger characters in the mythos. And, for a series of movies that has struggled to develop an extremely strong villain in spite of Rockwell's and Rourke's good performances, it's mind boggling.

Also, is it really going to "alienate and annoy" anyone aside from the super-hardcore fans? {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Well, it's far more extreme than most stuff fans get nitpicky over. There's people complaining about silly stuff like dropping the 'S' emblem from Superman's cape or Wolverine being too tall, and then there's stuff like completely overhauling a popular character with no regard to it's integrity as they've done here with Mandarin and as Fox did with Deadpool. Those aren't changes made just because those ideas work better on film, those are changes made to cash in on a popular name character without having to commit to really using said character. It was maddening but understandable with Fox given their track record, but I think people felt safe with Marvel Studios developing their own properties. For the hardcore fans I talked to at my local comic shop, they all seem more disappointed than anything. Who can you trust with your favorite Marvel characters if you can't trust Marvel?
For myself, it doesn't bother me greatly because I've never been a big fan of Iron Man's solo universe, but I can definitely empathize with the fans who are pissed off. What they've done with Mandarin is really the same thing Christopher Nolan did with Dick Grayson/Robin, who is my favorite DC character. It's definitely disappointing as a fan who wants to see their favorite stuff imagined in live-action.
