Why didn't Canadians complain when HBK Dry humped The Canadian flag and put it up his nose? It's Canada. Who cares if they get offended?

Why didn't Canadians complain when HBK Dry humped The Canadian flag and put it up his nose? Apparently it's illegal to desecrate a flag in Brazil, and is not in Canada. Therefore no one will get in legal trouble over doing that to a Canadian flag.

Why didn't Canadians complain when HBK Dry humped The Canadian flag and put it up his nose? Because desecrating a flag isn't illegal in Canada. At least not as far as I know. That's the key thing that I think needs to be clarified. From what I've read, most of Brazilians knew it was part of the show. Hell, likely the police in attendance knew it was part of the show. But their hands are tied by the law.

An interesting take for a live report on ProWrestling.net: 8. CM Punk defeated Chris Jericho to retain the WWE Championship. The highlight of the show, but for negative reasons. Some "Y2J" chants could be heard, but they stopped when Jericho cut a heel promo. But then Punk entered with a very good pop. Then someone give to both of them the Brazilian flag, but Jericho disrespected (?) the Brazilian flag by kicking it away. Punk hit some atomic drops in the beginning of the match and then started to making fun of Jericho.
Soon after Jericho hit Punk in the eyes and the match stopped. Then, Jericho apologized for kicking the flag and blah, blah, blah (it was really odd and affected the quality of the match, since nobody really understand why he apologized) . In the end, Jericho locked Punk in the Walls of Jericho but Punk got the ropes for the break. Frustrated, Jericho tried to hit Punk with a chair, but Punk avoided and hit the GTS for the win.
The show ended with Punk celebrating with the fans after his victory.
One of the reports on PWInsider also mentioned the part that it made the match worse: (The second guy who sent a report apparently cared so little about the flag part that he didn't even mention it at all) Know where else has an issue with flag desecration? Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Portugal, to name but a few, even SWEDEN for goodness' sake! Are you claiming that all of these countries are also "backwards"? Depending on the situation, you could be charged with disorderly conduct, if you were burning a flag, but that would be the same if you burnt a complete non-flag related piece of cloth as well. Since 1982, the only thing the Swedish law says about the flag is 1) the shape and look of it, 2) which variants are to be used by which branches of the government/military/law enforcement/etc, 3) that writing or adding marks to the flag is prohibited. However, there's no potential punishment added to the last part, and here are some of the first photos I could find on football fans: {Spoiler} Before 1982 there were laws against putting the flag on the ground, stepping on it, or displaying it on a flag pole after sunset. Now there are only recommendations against such things. Like in the US, one of those recommendations is that if a flag gets torn up or otherwise non-servicable, it should rather be burnt than thrown away in the trash.

I don't know if it has been mentioned before, but JBL could easily have been arrested for the nazi salute. It's highly illegal to do this publicly in Germany. Jericho tried to troll, JBL tried to troll and accidentally they both broke the law of the respective country they were guests in. A suspension might seem a bit harsh, but it send out the right message. WWE tries to be as sensitive as possible at the moment so Jericho take the blame and keeps the company out of the line of fire.

I think both Jericho and JBL went off the reservation. If they did what they did following an order no way is there a suspension. Thus, JBL was simply sent away (home) to avoid heat and Jericho was suspended. He is so old and tired does it really make a difference?

Let me get this straight, Jericho got suspended for a month because he kicked a flag? This is a guy who is in the same company where JBL did a goose step in Germany and HBK dry humped the Canadian flag in the middle of a ring. Nothing happened to those two guys and he gets suspended? What a crock of shit. No disrespect to the people of Brazil, but come on!!!

It's a work because who outside of Brazil would've heard of this if the WWE didn't make it front page news(z) and publicly suspend Y2J for 30-days, in the process removing him from the NWO ppv as well? Especially considering that in the U.S., desecrating the flag is clearly protected by the 1st Amendment and this being an election year (sorry to go into politics but there is a point I promise) it's hard to resolve an American company punishing a Canadian for not following Brazilian law... ..unless it's all a work. Again, everybody is talking about Jericho right now. Before, they were all saying how ineffectual his return has been since 'Mania. So if this hypothetically was a work designed to get Jericho 'hot' again, mission accomplished. If it's not a work, they must've realized that bad publicity is still free publicity and gave the 30 day suspension as a way to harness this into a work, IMO. Mission still accomplished. I'm not seeing what that proves beyond what's imagined. You're taking the facts and twisting the to fit what you believe to be the case because dammit, it must be a work! How can it not be? Except Jericho broke Brazilian law. There's no getting around that. The idea that a performer would do something illegal with WWE's consent just so they can write him out or even for the publicity is such a preposterous line of reasoning that it beggers belief that it's even being entertained. I know people want to sound smart by yelling WORK! at everything but if they have to strain credibility like this then it has the opposite effect. Occam's Razor. Which sounds more likely? Jericho heels it up ignorant of the local laws, is forced into a hasty apology and WWE suspends him as a good wiil gesture and minimise bad publicity. Or WWE concocts this entire scenario, which, again, involves Jericho risking time in a Brazilian jail and risks pissing off an entire market and would get them bad press either way, just to get Jericho's name out there. A guy who won't be hanging round for much longer anyway. Come on now. Pretty much bang on the nose. When you hear hooves, think horses, not zebras. This isn't a work. It's a dumb move by Jericho that they're trying their hardest to spin out of bad publicity territory. The ONE annoying thing to me about the internet now is that wrestlers aren't allowed to be plain, dumb people anymore. Anything they say, do, or take part in is automatically assumed to be a "WORK!" by fans who want to look smarter than they are.

You're missing the point, it doesn't seem like the crowd gave two. Same thing as Finlay, someone got overzealous. Funny thing is that you KNOW this is a planned spot, wouldn't be surprised if it was going to happen on every show.... so, why aren't Punk and the agent suspended for 30 days too? If it was a planned spot, and I was Jericho, I'd just quit. Not like this run is going anywhere anyway. 1. Punk & the agent won't be suspended because they aren't the ones that committed the act. 2. Quitting over something like this would be incredibly stupid. He gets a 30 day vacation. He can come back and pick up where he left off. Finlay wasn't the one that commited the "act" in that case, either.

Know what would be awesome? Jericho aligning himself with Paul Heyman (and Lesnar) upon his return, railing against Triple H and the new "image conscious" WWE. That would really kick this run into high gear by giving it a new edge and actually make something of it.

This part has me imagining Jericho hitchhiking his way through South America, with a full beard, dirty clothes, and a lost look on his face, trying to figure out what went wrong with his life. And this should play in the background: OK, THIS IS THE POST OF THE YEAR. Seriously, I'm still laughing.
