Gorgeous George had a valet, a male valet, who would come to the ring and disrobe him, powder his nose, etc. Ricardo would be a valet if he wasn't simply Alberto's ring announcer (though they had something on FCW where they said Ricardo was apart of a management company and was hired by Del Rio). Sensational Sherri and Sunny were managers. Melina was a valet for MNM. Natalya was a valet for the Hart Dynasty. I'd put Melina in the manager category as well. She was the best female manager since Sherri IMO. She was the mouthpiece for MNM who interfered in their matches on a regular basis and a legit heat magnet who was involved in all sorts of major storylines. As talented as Joey and John were, without Melina they would've have made it as far as they did.

In regards to the Rosa/Vickie comparison, I am definitely in the camp of Vickie being a useful manager and Rosa being random eye candy. Sometimes they'll put random eye candy with a guy in hopes that will help get him over, though it ends up being that they are outshined. The best example is Alicia Fox and DJ Gabriel. With Rosa, it does seem like an excuse to use her with Primo and Epico. Primo and Epico are both incredibly talented so they'll probably stick around in WWE, especially with the depleted roster, be they job guys or top guys. Rosa though isn't, and she seems to be just shoved into the position of a valet to hopefully add to Primo and Epico. Rosa also seems to have even less of a role if they plan on doing something with them and A.W. Because he is actually a manager. I really don't see why Rosa and Vickie should have different titles just because Rosa is considered hot and Vickie isn't. As I said eariler, they both cheer their guys, taunt the other team, and sometimes try to help their guys cheat. Vickie does it better, but they both try to do the same things.

It really seems like the only reason you're giving them the same title is because they're both women. Would you call guys like Jimmy Hart or Paul Heyman valets as well? They both essentially did the same thing as Vickie.

Just don't call one a manager and the other a valet when they both are out there at ringside doing the same things to get themselves and their wrestlers noticed.

Kayfabe, as I see it, the manager manages the wrestler's personal affairs, including wrestling contracts. A valet accompanies a wrestler out to the ring but isn't a business partner. The lines blur if the manager or valet becomes a physical presence in a match or becomes a storyline element, i.e. beat the Midnight Express and you get five minutes in the ring with Cornette. I don't expect a valet to bump or help interfere in a match; I expect managers to do so. These traits, however, aren't consistent and someone like Sherri could be considered both.

the difference between a valet and a manager is who's in charge. Vickie seems like the boss of Ziggler and Swagger, while Rosa is there because the Colons want her there.

As talented as Joey and John were, without Melina they would've have made it as far as they did. Yeah, I don't think that there was an MNM match of any relevance where she didn't interfere on their behalf. She was this feisty little woman who'd kick guys, pull her boot off and hit them over the head, feign injuries to distract the referee, and do various other heelish activities while her bumbling duo stumbled into victory after victory. That's a core reason why I liked the team so much, because they had a manager who was brimming with personality and character, and it created the foundations for the character she then-on played. And that's why no female valet/manager since has been of interest to me since. Vickie gets involved sometimes, but is nowhere near the factor in matches. Neither was Maryse, who completely phoned it in, or Rosa, or even Natalya back in the days of her managing the Hart Dynasty. And I wish women would/could get more involved in matches if they're valets or managers, because that is a PERFECT launchpad for a character even after the team or wrestler that they manage collapses. I think AJ is demonstrating that perfectly in her storyline right now.
