Did the E really need permission to do it without the Genius' permission? They don't need permission to induct anyone, they just need the permission of Vince McMahon. If he gives his permission then any wrestler will have permission to be permitted.

Good. Randy Savage was far too huge of a superstar to be lumped into a group induction. I'm not against the Poffo's going in, but that should be completely separate from Macho Man's own induction.

If he gives his permission then any wrestler will have permission to be permitted. Don't think you know this, but multiple sources state that Randy only wanted to be inducted with his brother and father. It may have taken a while, but fortunately Lanny has come to the realization that perhaps his brother needs his own induction.

The HOF is pretty much a big commercial endeavor, and you couldn't induct someone without their permission. After his death, I'm sure they could have inducted Macho Man, but it'd be bad publicity if a family member opposed them all the way.

I figured that all of the "permissions" in my post would make it pretty obviously a joke. How very odd.

You'd think passive-aggression is something one would grow out of by the time they are a senior citizen.

If he gives his permission then any wrestler will have permission to be permitted. Vince does have respect in the matter, though, and he's been a stickler at honoring others' wishes. He didn't induct Bruno for years because Bruno said no, he didn't induct Backlund for years because Backlund said he didn't feel he was ready yet, he hasn't ignored Mr. T's thoughts on going in and just put him in anyway, and he hasn't just inducted Owen because (even though Bret and others are ok with Vince now) of Martha's issues with them. This *may* be the final piece to get it in motion, but even then.......will Vince still want to do it without any of Randy's family representing him? Also, no offense to Lanny, but has he ever addressed what the fans may want? Did he ever, at least, invoke the fact that a LOT of people loved Randy and wanted to see him in the WWE HOF and use that to his advantage?

II wonder if that is the case. When Lanny talked about Randy's wishes, his tone of voice never suggested that he was angling for an induction for himself. I think he knows that the fans are the ones missing out on Randy not being in the HOF and that maybe why he changed his heart.
Randy does have a widow, although I would personally like to see Lanny accept it on his behalf.

"Just don't invite me or pay me" doesn't sound positive at all. He's just saying "You know what, just do it, whatever, and leave me alone." In that Kayfabe commentary, Lanny said that the only person from Stamford who contacted him right after Randy died was Finkel. If only Vince or others had contacted him, we'd be in a bit of a better place with a Randy Savage HOF induction...

Like has been said before, I don't doubt Lanny when it comes to Randy's wishes. At least where Angelo Poffo is concerned. Before Randy died, Lanny was giving interviews saying that Randy wanted Angelo inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame too. It makes sense because Randy had WCW induct Angelo, much to the protest of Gordon Solie. When Randy died though, Lanny started adding himself to the induction. That said, it's not hard to believe Randy wouldn't have wanted Lanny inducted either given that he got WCW to put him under contract for years just to sit at home.
Lanny Poffo was good in the ring. In 1990 he was well over as a heel as the Genius. Who knows why WWE didn't do more with the gimmick. Seems like there was a large gap of time between 90 and 91 when the Genius did precious little. As for Angelo Poffo, he was a promoter but not one of the big ones. His induction would be a stretch.
If WWE wants to induct Savage, they can go to his widow. But you just know Lanny will be giving negative interviews if that happened and some news company will pick up on it thinking it's worth the attention. Also with Savage's widow, I just fear the WWE Universe chanting Elizabeth at her unless Elizabeth gets inducted earlier that night. If Lanny was there, I think the risk of that would diminish.
So it's a tough situation. However there's no rush at this point. Instead of Savage, WWE should focus on guys like Warrior or Jake the Snake while they're still with us. Savage won't headline a class now that he's dead, so they'll likely put him in when he won't overshadow the headliner like Vince, HHH, Rock, Taker, or Cena.

No, they're going to do this anyway. Having the fans at the Hall of Fame inductions has been nothing but horrIble. Security never enforces the dress codes or any sense of decorum, allowing the mouth-breathers to ruin whatever they want unchecked.
