I am not a fan of Cena promos. They're my least favorite thing in all of wrestling. But I sat there in absolute awe of that. Triple H and Orton were out there to get over how important it was to the history of the company, but it was Cena's job to make it personal. It was Cena's job to make me want to see these two particular guys fight and he did it masterfully. When he's like this, the Ace of the Company, honest to god "I am great at this job" in his delivery he's really something special. It doesn't take much to make me buy a ppv, but a usual good way to do it is to make me go "Oooh, damn." at a line. And when he told Orton he could say he was "Finally what he was supposed to be ten years ago." I lost it.
Amazing.

I loved it until he took credit for the success of Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, and Dolph Ziggler. I wont speak for Ziggler but Daniel Bryan and CM Punk WERE successful at least in part of Cena's efforts. He was the guy that busted his ass to put them over in classic matches. Daniel Bryan was plenty over, well before his match with Cena.

Also to note: Good God does Orton suck horribly. He literally looked like he didn't give two shits about it.

Yeah I hated it. Cena co-signs and leaches off of people far too often, it's way too annoying.

I've said my favorite matches involving Cena is when he loses. Not because I like seeing him lose, but because I find that he seems more motivated in those matches (RVD at ONS, Punk at MitB, Bryan at SS off the top of my head) to make that moment seem meaningful. His promo work is no different. When he's motivated, he's on another level. Only Punk can be compared on the mic for his ability to convey the right tone and utilize the crowd to convey his message effortlessly. I know he gets a lot of grief around here, but he's where he's at for a very good reason and deservedly so. My criticisms regarding Cena has always been with the company books him. He's got the it factor and anyone who doesn't see it, I'm sorry, is just wrong. He is this generation's Hogan. It's weird because I've noticed the same thing.. The more motivated Cena seems on the mic, the more likely he is trying his best to put that person over, not only there...but in the match. And that's why I don't think Cena is the politician some people make him out to be. I truly think he goes out there and does everything he can to help those who really earned the rub; Ziggler, Punk, Bryan. The problem is, he can only do so much. Blame Vince McMahon's shortsightedness on falling back on going back to tradition. People hate when Cena wins, and sometimes the hate is justified. But I don't doubt that if left up to Cena, he'd probably go out there and give the fans what they want if he could. Hell, I'd almost prefer if he was the rightful heir to the WWE throne instead of a couple of people who always do anything they can to get the last word or win.

I truly hope that someday Cena gets the majority face pops he deserves for bringing it like this in big promos as well as (most) big matches.

Wrestletaint.gov editorial? Nah, they had to cease the editorial section after that opinion piece about Drew McIntyre's weakness for Asian women. Apparently he got some riveting e-mails from some very eager Korean ladies which led to the beginning of his marriage's demise.

Also, as if nothing has been 'handed' to Cena? Not in the way Orton has, he really hasn't. They were deadset on Orton from Day 1 that he'd be THE GUY, not just some guy, THE GUY, The 1A. They wouldn't have put someone that young in Evolution with Triple H and Ric Flair if they didn't have huge plans for him. Orton was showcased on Raw with these top guys, while Cena was on Smackdown rap battling with Rikishi and getting his ass kicked by bigger stars. While I think they wanted Cena to be a star, it was probably on the "Chris Jericho" level, upper midcarder/semi main eventer, but because of Orton's own issues and botched pushes, Cena passed him by with just working hard, no bullshit. And with a promo like he delivered tonight, I can see why he passed Orton on the WWE food chain.

Also, as if nothing has been 'handed' to Cena? He creates a white rapper gimmick that was suppose to be a joke and got himself mega over as a heel even when losing big matches. He earned his way to the top as much as somebody can in THIS BUZNESS.

Shame to see it go.

Also to note: Good God does Orton suck horribly. He literally looked like he didn't give two shits about it. I thought Orton was on fire tonight, getting over their history and the violence between them before going off on all the prior champs before Cena took over and left Orton behind.

Daniel Bryan was plenty over, well before his match with Cena. He had a lot of explosive pops prior to SummerSlam, like when he took out The Shield by himself on a SmackDown episode or when he beat Orton in that Street Fight on Raw.

I'll give a shout out to the writers or whoever pitched that ending. At first I was thinking "shame they couldn't get some older champions in that ring" but after the brawl took off I realized that would have been hazardous.
But yeah, Cena has always been a master on the mic. Though if HHH can improvise with Bryan I'm sure it gave Cena a few ideas.

And on the Orton not acknowledging those YES chants, he really was in a no win situation.
He could either
A)Acknowledge the chants but then take an unnecessary shot at Bryan that many here will consider a burial
or
B) Do what he did tonight and ignored them.
Unlike Cena who can use that Bryan support positively, Orton was in a much more trickier spot.

He gets far more praise than grief around here. People may hate the way he's booked, but he's not underrated by any means. Given the hate he gets from other fans elsewhere for daring to commit such unforgivable acts like breathing air, we're still an exception to the norm. People say he sounds too much like a politican at times, but if that promo was any indication, we'd probably be looking at President Cena if he were one. Of course, he'd probably wind up telling the wrong country to Come Get Some and then we'd all be dead a week after his inaguration, but still.

It was good. Very good. I'm just numb to him at this point. I get that it was the smart thing to do to acknowledge the crowd and roll with it. But, he comes across like such a kiss-ass that I can't really respect his character, he's not someone I want to get behind and cheer for. As was said, he comes off like a politician, in this case even moreso than usual. He did a good job handling the crowd, but the problem is that the crowd is ALWAYS like that for him. Tonight he got them back into it and got through the segment, but in the long run it's not going to change anything. I'm so tired of him having to try and turn crowds. It's this constant battle that I'm tired of witnessing, it's not interesting at all at this point.

He earned his way to the top as much as somebody can in THIS BUZNESS. Bull f***ing shit. The guy has worked incredibly, incredibly hard, but "as much as somebody can"? He became a teflon WWE Champion five years into his wrestling career. Some guys have been handed more, but plenty have worked harder and been handed less. At a time when Batista was headlining the A show, they decided to market Cena as an invincible champion and hand him the keys to the company. A lot of people have been given much shittier gimmicks. He works hard, but saying that he's earned everything he has is just buying into his t-shirt slogans.

Cena's an underrated performer. Awesome promo saving it from Orton's garbage mic time. That dude had no clue how to shut the chants down.
