I'd like it if they struck another deal with NBC to bring back Saturday Night's main event during SNL's off season. They'd probably make more money of ad revenue than PPV purchases at this point. Reduce the PPV schedule (to no more than six) and use SNME to promote the handful of PPV's they keep. I rather doubt it'll ever happen - the previous SNME comebacks mostly did awful ratings. They only did five of them spread out over two years. It would need to be given time to grow. The ones in 06 did ok, drawing 2.9 and 2.6. It would also need promotion and a good producer like Ebersol.

For some reason, the Survivor Series PPV name itself will take the blame and be removed from the yearly lineup.

They're just going to blame Big Show because he's any easy scapegoat. The truth is that it failed due to the way they dished out garbage for three months and pushed the one guy people were excited over down the card. For all the shit talking WWE loves to do about WCW, you didn't see Bischoff do this with Goldberg. I'm just at a loss at this point. They know which guys get the loudest reactions and they can track who sells the most merchandise. That's pretty much a connect-the-dots of how to book the shows. They just need to get rid of their giant writing staff of non-wrestling people. It's not f***ing SNL. Theyy are a wrestling company. If they one day realize this their numbers will begin to fix themselves. They don't care just about making money, though. It's an important factor--why they cater to Cena, and Punk, and keep Bryan prominent--but there's more at work. It's a petty enterprise of petty decisions. If Vince, or Steph, or Kevin, or whoever else decide that they want to do something even if it doesn't really make much sense from a business standpoint, they'll do it anyway. It costs them a lot of money, but not so much that they're going belly up--yet. Although statistics like this show the trend is continuing on. Fans just don't care for the bullshit anymore. They just don't care at all. You get people who walk away from WWE not out of anger, but total disinterest. I originally stopped watching because I was mad at them; now I don't watch primarily because why should I? I'm not missing any great matches. I'm not missing great storylines. I'm not missing fresh characters either. It's just more Orton and Big Show all the time. And I don't dislike Orton, and I quite like Show, but they need to be put out to pasture. They're old racehorses that don't win races anymore. You can bring them back to the races as here and there, once they're rested and refreshed, but for the time being they're just as productive grazing in a corner of nowhere as they are with the rest of your stable's studs.

So could this have been the LAST Survivor Series? It was originally taken off the 2013 PPV last year for a time IIRC. Certainly this buyrate won;t do the PPV any favors. Honestly, I could care less if they get rid of all 'traditional' SS elimination matches, I just desperately want them to keep the PPV name. It would be like a knife in the heart to see it scrapped after 26 years in favor of "WWE Triple Threat" or some other bullshit. "WWE Triple Threat? We like the way you think sir!"

If they would have done a traditional Survivor Series matchup of Team Orton vs Team Bryan, I think the number would have been a LOT better.
Orton, all 3 Wyatts, and The Shield VS Bryan, Punk, The Usos, The Big Show, and The Rhodes
I understand not wanting to take a WWE title match off the card, but this would have made for a pretty amazing ~1 hr long SS match.

To those already theorising about the TLC numbers it's worth remembering that it wasn't on PPV in the UK or Ireland. As for the screwy finishes it's worth comparing the ridiculous ways Orton has retained the title to the clever strokes of luck that have allowed Bo Dallas to keep his title, I know they're very different characters involved in very different angles but it helps to remind us that a champion can squeak out an unclean victory in a slightly more natural and satisfying way. The fact that the bad example is on PPV and the good one is on free TV/internet is all backwards. You had a guy get incredibly hot to the point where he won the title clean on Summerslam. They took the belt away from him, screwed him over repeatedly, and then took him away from the title picture without getting clean retribution at any point. In NO WRESTLING PROMOTION EVER does this make sense. Forget whether he is an internet darling or not. Imagine Hogan being booked like this, Macho, Bret, HBK, Stone Cold, Rock. It's a shitty way to book an up and coming main eventer, and there is no counter debate. They deserve shitty buyrates for the insufferable "we know whats best" mentality. Great post. It's also why the Austin comparisons don't quite work, the culmination of that story was the face overcoming the odds and winning the gold, in this case we've already had that moment so if Bryan does win the title again we're just back to where we should have been after Summerslam.

They'll still find a way to blame Daniel Bryan somehow.

Most overseas PPV buys are UK, aren't they? They get most of the PPV's "free". I don't remember if this is one of them though.

Are they really down to less than 100K buys in North America? WOW. Not a justification, but last year also headlined Cena and The Rock as a tag team. That was 2011, last year was Cena/Punk/Ryback

You think WWE would look at Randy Orton and see something isn't working. I'm not saying crappy buyrates are his fault alone, but I think he could have a part of the blame. Even on Monday night he came out to basically crickets (unless my TV is broken) there was almost no reaction at all for him. These PPV's with him as champion haven't set the world on fire this fall. It should be very interesting to learn how well last Sunday's show did with the whole few weeks hype of the "epic" moment in time known as the Unification match between Cena & Orton. It would be very funny if it doesn't do much better

WWE will blame everything and everyone in order to avoid confronting the real reason for their shitty product.
