I looked over to my friend when they panned to him and said how he looked like he's been in longer than Rollins or Punk. He looked like he ran a marathon before entering the match. In his stupid shorts and stupid shoes and stupid face. Hey, his stupid face is his most popular feature here!

Because Triple H and Vince absolutely love the guy, and he's pretty much everything Daniel Bryan isn't.

Why Batista? Because Rock, Austin, Goldberg, Warrior, Hogan, Bryan, Punk, Sting, Undertaker, Kofi, Reigns, Ambrose, Kane, the New Age Outlaws, Goldust, Cody, Dusty, X-Pac, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Scott Norton, Rick Steiner, Scott Steiner, Ric Flair, Chris Jericho, Jonathan Coachman, JBL, Mysterio, El Torito, Hornswoggle, Max Mini, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Bruno Sammartino, Bad News Brown, Bad News Barrett, Mr. Fuji, Lex Luger, Bam Bam Bigelow, Tommy Dreamer, Raven, Matt Hardy, Abyss, Kurt Angle, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Louis CK, Dan Rather, Regis Filbin, Dan Castellaneta, me, you, Sean Carless, Lancers, this entire f***ing board, a pile of dogshit, were all busy.
So they had to get the next best thing. Which is Batista.

In what world is Chris Pratt more famous than Batista? A better actor sure, but not more famous. Who the hell knows Batista outside wrestling fans? Pratt stars on an NBC primetime sitcom and yes, as someone above me mentioned, he's in line to be getting the "Goldberg push" of Hollywood actors at this moment. The lowest rated NBC sitcom. "The LEGO movie? A NON FACTOR!" -Shane Douglas I agree that when GotG comes out Pratt will be huge and that Batista is maybe third banana in the film, but right now Batista is way more known than Pratt

Parks and Rec, even for a low-rated network TV show, has had seasons where it brought in 5-6 million viewers per episode. Whether he is or isn't more well known is irrelevant to the point I was making anyway, because Pratt is the star of the movie so he's going to be the one doing all the major press.

Also, Chris Pratt was in "Zero Dark Thirty" in addition to "Parks and Rec", has been on talk shows right and left over the last year, is is starting beginning to get the push of one of the next big things in Hollywood. Honestly, if you're not a wrestling fan for longer than 5 years, you probably have no idea who Batista is.

It wouldn't surprise me if this was part of his deal in coming back.

As I posted in the other thread, Marvel won't start pushing the promotion of Guardians hard until after Captain America's theatrical run is over, which is still two months after Mania, minimum.
Yes, it's a Marvel movie, but it's a Marvel movie that a lot of people in the movie industry believe has a big chance of flopping hard - the two biggest name stars (Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel) are playing CGI characters, the two leads (Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana) aren't big names, despite Parks & Rec and Star Trek, and it's stylistically pretty far-removed from the other MCU films.
Bottom line is to maximise the exposure gained from his participation in the film, 2014 should be the Summer of Batista. The iron is hot for Bryan now, which is why he should be the focus.

Here's a theory:
It was most likely put in his contract for him to win the Rumble and headline Mania way back during his negotiations with WWE. They probably were ironing out he details of his contract several months ago, and didn't expect Bryan would sustain his popularity by the Rumble. So they could've been contractually obligated to go through with Batista winning despite what the crowd wanted. If they didn't, they could've had a situation where Batista could threaten to walk or whatever.

It wouldn't surprise me if this was part of his deal in coming back. I'm assuming this is it. They're so desperate for extra starpower when their planned deals with Rock, Austin, and Goldberg all failed to amount to anything (and you just know they probably tried to talk HBK into wrestling yet again too) that they were willing to bend over backwards for Batista. Not to mention working him like a mark and offering him wins and a prop belt to carry around quite probably lowered his price tag a good bit.

He is a movie STAR. I've watched this on Netflix and even though Batista gets top billing, he was in the film a total of about 20 minutes. The movie is terrible but there is one hilarious part where RVD karate chops a tree in half.

The thing I don't get about the 'ratings pop' argument is, what if the extra viewers tuned in to see what Bryan and the Wyatts were gonna do next after the great ending the week before?

Put me in the group that believes Reigns should have done it. Make the Shield capture all the gold at Mania.

I think the truth lies somewhere in between the two. Bryan and Batista both appeared in the first hour, after which the extra viewers headed for the hills.
