Assuming this is actually a legal notice and Punk's prepared to sue, and it's about the reasons believed by the dirt sheets, WWE will settle. They don't want anyone questioning their payment structure or employee treatment practices. This isn't Raven suing close to a decade after his employment, this is someone recently employed and prominently featured even past his departure.
What if Punk actually brings change from his couch in Chicago?

Might be coincidence, but WWE just super marked down ALL of Punk's merch. Like, dramatically down. Haven't seen anything like it since Bischoff made a crack about continued royalties from the WWE selling his book in 2010 when he was in TNA that lead to the WWE marking it down to $3.00 or so and clearing it out. If you've been waiting to scoop the Punk blu-ray, it's now only $7.99, which is two dollars less than the cost of the network : shop.wwe.com/CM-Punk/cmpunk,default,sc.html This has been gradually happening ever since he left. They got marked down to its current point a few weeks ago, along with another ~100 separate items (as can be seen in the "Sale" section). They do this once every month or two.

Whether he's right or wrong, i'm always going to hope anybody going after WWE legally f***s them up the ass. I find it absolutely impossible to side with them over anything at all. Is this why they invited Michael Sam to RAW ?

Who hands the royalties for videogames? 2k or wwe? Pretty sure it's WWE.

Who ever said Punk fulfilled all of his dates? This was never said anywhere by any of the main news sites.
I love how people blindly support Punk even though he keeps showing he doesn't give a crap about his fans. His twitter is only an ego trip for him to interact with celebrities and athletes . There is never any fan interaction. He only bitches about them and spazes out on them like he did this week.
It's funny how his first tweet since leaving was interacting with some goofy mascot rather than saying hey what's up to his fans. After all this time there is still nothing from him to give people closure. He only tweeted something after WWE moved his profile to the alum section once his deal expired, likely done for him to let people know he is now available for certain projects. Shows you how much respect he has for his fan base.

It'll be interesting to see how this goes down, given WWE doesn't own the CM Punk name like they do with 99% of the other performers.

If this is true, this probably isn't the type of thing that'd lead to any long-term changes in how WWE treats their wrestlers. It's a trademark issue, how they classify their workers wouldn't be relevant to the case at all.
It also assumes that the IRS doesn't already know how WWE classifies it's wrestlers, when I would bet you a bridge in Arizona that it does and just doesn't care.

That's completely separate from the issue at hand anyway, it's a good that people are benig rational instead of making emotional judgments.

You could just see it coming, people are calling the WWE on their bullshit these days. It's only a matter of time until the independent contractor bullshit gets brought to light. Especially with the network and payoff for top guys getting worse. Really i think hhh being one of the "boys" ditectly leads to wwe dropping the independent contractor bs I mean barnum and bailey gives their people healthcare, 401k options. Etc. WWE wrestlers aren't dumb. They know what to do. Main eventers don't give a shit. Brock did it first. ADR directly called them on the bullshit and he will probably join punk in royalties shit. Basically hoping these law suits make wwe into an actual way for guys to be employed fruitfully

Has it ever occurred to anyone, that the reason no one has challenged the workers job classification status is because they know how bad they will screw themselves and every other WWE wrestler if they were to do that and succeed. I'd wager there's a definite risk vs. reward process going through most wrestler's heads. The benefits of employment are worker's comp and unemployment, and now health care, and WWE tended to take care of medical bills already if people were injured. The threat of getting blacklisted probably isn't worth it to a lot of people. Also, the WWE isn't really even alone in their definition of independent contractors. A lot of trucking companies treat their drivers as independent contractors, but have the same restrictions as WWE has for getting outside work, and they're a lot bigger than WWE. Before anything happens with WWE, that industry would probably be taken head-on first. I mean, the IRS isn't exactly a small organization, they know what's going on in companies, and they've never been shy about enforcing the laws they have. If they can take down Capone for tax evasion, they probably know about a company as well-publicized as WWE.

If WWE felt Punk broke his contract and no longer felt it necessary to pay his royalties, shouldn't they have flat out stopped using his name and likeness, since they were licensing them from him?
