It doesn't sound that bad, it's not something like Rice Kamikaze like I saw a few people (jokingly) suggest could happen to KENTA. It's not a fumble like Michal McGillicutty, Kassius Ohno, or Husky Harris. It sounds like a legitimate name which is half the battle.
HI-DE-O as a chant works better than KENTA-KENTA-KENTA too, I know this as I've been saying it in my head for the past 10 minutes. Same way Daniel-Bry-An worked better than Bry-an-Daniel-san.
It's fine, it's not an awful name at all, it doesn't seem as stand out bad-ass as KENTA right now because...well, KENTAs been in fans eyes for a decade+. Give it time.
Note: I voted for "I wish they kept KENTA but it's a good name".

Might be a minority opinion, but I think Kenta's name is going to be the least of his worries.
Honestly is the average WWE fan going to know who the hell he is when he first shows up on RAW. Most just get through RAW maybe watch a PPV and that's it. I don't think they are watching wrestling from Japan or anything else outside of WWE. Hell most won't even bother with an english language TNA.
Along with not knowing much about him at all, out will trot a short Japanese guy. He's going to be way behind the 8 ball when he debuts, due to his poor (but from all accounts improving daily) English and his small stature.
Will his in ring talent overcome...idk I can't say that for sure. That's a big wait and see with me, but I look forward to the weekly "how WWE is destroying KENTA" threads we will have.
Those are the biggest obstacles KENTA and WWE are going to overcome. His name is just a side note.

I actually like it, but it will take some time to get used to not calling him KENTA. On a side note, I was surprised how good his english was.

It'll be funny to see how WWE reacts if the NXT crowds keep chanting "KENTA!" like they did last night.

I'd have Cole say "Ladies and gentlemen, the WWE Universe are chanting KENTA in support of Hideo, which means "Strength" in Japanese"

I'd have Cole say "Ladies and gentlemen, the WWE Universe are chanting KENTA in support of Hideo, which means "$9.99" in Japanese" Fixed for accuracy.

Kenta is not wearing any socks with that suit. Apparently it's a 'thing' in fashion, now. I don't get it, either.

Will KENTA chants ruin the Hideo Itami gimmick?

It'll be funny to see how WWE reacts if the NXT crowds keep chanting "KENTA!" like they did last night. Toward the end it sounded like they were chanting Hideo Itami, sounded bad though (then again I was watching on my phone). I do think getting the new name over will take time but will happen. The NXT crowd loves to play along and I don't see the average RAW crowd going all post-Mania crowd. On the new name. Not bad but I honestly wish they had just stuck with Itami. I think the one word name for him adds to his aura, sounds a tad less awkward and would be quicker thing for people to grab on to to chant. Plus "Hideo" will most likely be dropped by the time he makes his main roster debut anyway.

Fair points, and it really IS on WWE to get him over if they insist on, well, doing what they do 95 percent of the time. They hire a big name, then change his ring name, change some of his moveset (if not all of it), bring him in under a new gimmick with only a few vignettes, then have the announcers ignore him to talk about someone else. THAT is the downfall for so many. If they chose to have the build up, including some footage of what he has done in the past, and explain to their "target audience" (not us, people who have watched his work and are excited to see him anyway) why he friggin' matters, then there's a good chance he gets over. If they follow that up by allowing him to look good and not sit and scream about other people while he's wrestling, then that will do wonders as well.

For the love of god, don't have him write a story about espionage and giant robots.

I kinda wish they kept KENTA... but at least they acknowledged it, played up that he's a big star internationally...
I would've only had a problem with it if they had treated him like a rookie.

My girlfriend said something funny considering she's not really a wrestling fan. "So basically, he had a PhD when he was in japan but when he comes to America, he has to go back to college."

It's not a bad name, but it's unnecessary, given how he had a huge profile, and they mentioned him as Kenta in the previews. I'm just afraid that if Sting ever does wrestle in the WWE, they'll make him something like Ralph O'Doyle.

Any flavor of O'Doyle is awesome. Why? Because O'Doyle ****ing rules, that's why. O'Doyle rules.

I really don't mind it. If there's something I like about the name, it's that it is fairly normal. I'd have preferred Kenta or a variation of it, but if the fans really want to chant something for him I think they'll figure something out, but it'd probably have to be at the pace that a lot of Japanese name chants are. One of my big wrestling fan Jaoanese friends laughed at the idea of an Itami chant.
