I've been a wrestling fan for roughly fourteen years now. I've always wanted to go to a WrestleMania but with the knowledge WWE won't ever bring it to England, it felt unlikely I'd ever actually make it. Well this year, I actually had the time and money to do so. Treated myself to a travel package. Hall of Fame was cool, Mania was much better than expected and Raw was one of the most fun shows and experiences I've ever had. So now that it's all over and I'm waiting to go home, I'm intrigued to see what others think and wouldn't you know it? I'm a sexist neckbeard. I'm a disgrace to all wrestling fans. I never should have gone and I certainly shouldn't be allowed back.
Yes it was a stupid chant, yes it was sexist but that doesn't mean we go day to day treating women like shit. For a crowd that most have said were lively and energetic the first couple of hours, why focus on the one negative?
And no, we weren't awesome despite the majority of us saying it. We were wrestling fans who for the most part had finally fulfilled a live long dream to go to Mania. We were having fun and we took it too far. WE f***ED UP! WE f***ED UP!
However, as much as we may have shamed wrestling (the women in particular), I'd still say wrestling is fine and one stupid chant won't affect it in the long run. Raw had its highest viewer ship since July 2012 and if it doesn't maintain those figures, it won't be because 17000 people acted sexist for a few minutes.

Elaborate on that please? For example IIRC at NXT during a Trips promo he halted a "this is awesome" chant to tell us "no, (we) are awesome." Or John Cena, the recepient of way more lewd chants than the Bella Twins will ever experience in their lifetimes, came out after Wrestlemania 29 and told everyone that his favorite chant is WE ARE AWESOME. And the truth of it is, the core of the Wrestlemania experience is the people. All of the people, Superstars, Divas, fans, legends. If you think it's about the show, that's the not the case. It's being around 70,000 of the craziest bastards in the world. Normally, wrestling is this scoffed at by the masses, but on this weekend in whatever city they host it in, it's bigger than NFL, soccer, basketball, baseball, and all other sports combined. Nowhere else can you talk about it like everyone understands it on the level of those real sports. I met so many people, people from UK, Australia, New Zealand, Kuwait, Argentina, and most importantly, people from the Freakin Awesome Network. The thing that actually surprised me the most was the diversity. For all this talk about sexism and racism, and how this pseudo-sport is geared towards male rednecks and lower-class people. Yet, I saw children of all ages, people of all sorts of racial backgrounds, and especially women taking part. WWE's fanbase is diverse as it has ever been, and it doesn't need this outrage over some silly chants to keep moving in that direction. So, when it comes to We Are Awesome, I've heard among the criticism of that chant, that it is self-serving. It's actually the opposite. The chant your looking for in that argument is I AM AWESOME. It's almost like saying thanks to the people that are true backbone of this event, that being all the people who we experienced it with. We are indeed awesome, and the real subtext there is that the WE includes the WWE staff/talent, as well the fans, even the guys we loved to hate, like John Cena, the Bella Twins, and Roman Reigns. During the NXT show, Triple H said something to the effect of, "it isn't me, it isn't you (the audience), it's US. For you that don't like the chant, after this weekend, I have pity on you, because you guys just don't know it. I wish everyone could have experienced Wrestlemania weekend the same way I did, because I don't think anyone here would have resisted the WE ARE AWESOME chant if you experienced it the way I did. I hope all of you can one day choose (or afford) to attend the modern day Wrestlemania experience, because I can guarantee you that you will understand it. I'm pretty sure that after expenses, this trip cost me over $7500, and I wouldn't say or choose to do anything different.

You were fun for awhile, really enhanced the show. Then y'all got crass and corny. But for awhile y'all were good.

I attended multiple wrestlemania's and I still dislike the We Are Awesome crap. I dunno what to tell you. I don't really get the grand "we're all in this together" mushy feeling behind it.

Well, let's bare in mind I am still on a high from having just gotten home from the trip. It's natural that I should be in elevated spirits. But, specifically, the Night After Raw is now built on the idea of these crazy hardcore fans packed into one arena. The whole thing would just be another interchangeable Raw without it, so I don't see why anyone is really against the people getting their moment on TV. It's like, we are allowed to chant for NXT guys, make more noise than any other audience, and make the show fun, but we can't even so much as take a bow?

(attended WM29 Raw) You can take a bow, and people can call it obnoxious. (shrug) I don't think it's a good look.

I don't need recognition for that 'accomplishment' ya know?

We might as well be on the listed of advertised Superstars to appear.

Easily the worst post-Mania crowd since it started being a thing.

That's fine you feel that way, but I think WWE would disagree with that sentiment. (also, I hope everyone knows that statement about The After Mania crowd being advertised to appear is hyperbole)

My concern is WWE openly acknowledging "The Raw After Mania" as a thing. It's almost become like it isn't a RAW in itself and it's a special like SNME.
That now opens it from being organic, legitimate reactions to people going out of their way to do stuff regardless of context and whether it even makes sense. I got that impression a few times last night and next year onwards will only get worse.

They had a really crazy crowd the night after WrestleMania 29 that some loved and some hated. But WWE decided to give the crowd themselves a Slammy, essentially rewarding them for their craziness. So instead of it just being a one time thing, now all crowds the night after Mania try to do weird shit to get noticed.

They should have just given them the Local Men trying to chain wrestle each other again.

They should have just given them the Local Men trying to chain wrestle each other again. That would been the most amazing thing ever, to be honest. Big Show's penchant for hostile crowd trolling is great, and if they went all the way, he'd probably get cheered.
