I don't get the freakout. I'd rather have a Star Wars film that looks and feels different from the other movies, especially those that aren't properly 'episodes'. Not having an opening crawl is one such way to go about doing so.

Yeah, I don't mind the anthology films not having the crawl. That is something that should be kept exclusive to the episode films. Neither of the canon cartoons have a crawl. Clone Wars had that newsline intro (which I loved, btw) and Rebels simply has a cold open. If fact, I am not sure I even like the canon comics opening with a crawl like the Darth Vader comics did (though they were an effective recap mechanism).

A CGI Jek Porkins should be in Rogue Squadron. Just a cameo. Nah. Just cut the actor's performances in Raiders of the Lost Ark and Batman and insert them in through the magic of editing. Rebel officer: "This is Jek Porkins of Red Squadron. They're looking for new recruits." Recruit: "Oh really? Well, what are you looking for?" Porkins: "Top. Men." Rebel officer: "Now Piggy, that attitude won't work. When I'm in charge of the fighter wing, that won't.... Porkins: "You mean when you run the show? You ain't got no future, Jack! You're an A-1 nut boy!" |

I might be reading into it too much, but I like the protagonist's line, "We have hope. Rebellions are built on hope." And how this line ties in to the title of Episode IV, A New Hope.

On a sidenote The Outrider showed up on Rebels tonight I don't believe that it was the Outrider, just a ship of its class (YT-2400). The only name I recall hearing was Iron Squadron, though I am sure that name referred to the crew, not the ship. Still, the Outrider itself was already canon thanks to the Special Editions. |
