I'm just going to say it: I have never seen a Star Wars movie

A certain Jamaican stereotype who's responible for Palpatine gaining his status as emperor. I can't decide if this is a good thing or bad thing. Though his non-survival would sway things.

What's funny is that the new canon has imperial propaganda that portrays him as a hero for giving Palpatine his emergency powers.

Well, that was bloody good. Just rewatched A New Hope once I got home, too, and it's near seamless. Whoever handled continuity deserves a raise. I prefer Awakens as a movie, but here they managed to create a perfect slice of Star Wars that (along with the cartoons) works as the best evidence of a prequel actually working for this universe.

There's much more in common with A New Hope.

I have mixed feels about the film. The very beginning was very jarring and just didn't feel right at all. Then it seemed like it took a long while to really get going. Some scenes ultimately seemed pointless IMO. The soundtrack kind of seemed like a Star Wars knock off rather than the real deal. However over all I enjoyed the film and it felt a bit like Battlefront The Movie (I mean that as a good thing). Certain characters were really well done and appear a lot more than I was expecting. Makes me wonder what is possible now for cinema in general. {Spoiler}I nearly laughed out loud when it ends up that the guy in the black robe wasn't the Emperor, Snoke or Darth Jar Jar and instead was what was apparently just Darth Vader's butler. lol I like The Force Awakens better (and I loved that film). This was probably the best of the series in visuals.

Nothing out of the prequels really other than some of the Rebel leaders reappearing. A few nice references to A New Hope and some surprisingly good looking uses of ANH characters.

Thought the beginning and end were pretty great and the middle dragged a bit. Way less of the smaller aliens on the poster than expected. The whole cast was pretty solid. I thought Galen was pretty bland and Krennic was wonderful as a flawed antagonist. Not really a shock having read Catalyst, the tie in novel, which I can tell you is an interesting read on the transition from Republic to Empire but has almost nothing to do with this movie.
The main crew was overall likable and engaging. They have that weird movie thing where they feel like they bond a bit too close a bit too fast. I'd actually have preferred them to have had maybe another mission together just to give everything a chance to breathe in the middle. There's a lot of great action throughout the film that manages to be thrilling and exceedingly clear. They also manage to transition rather well from an action adventure early in the film to a war film by the end.

I just came back from the film, and I enjoyed it. In many ways it does feel different than a normal Star Wars movie. {Spoiler}Whoever they got to do the voice for Tarkin did a damn good job. Though his CGI look was a little off in my eyes, and I'm not the type to usually pick that apart. Maybe it's just because he was in the film more, but I thought they did better with the CGI Leia at the end.
Also, Vader's voice sounded somewhat off to me, but that can be understandable as James Earl Jones is getting up there in years. I did like the scene before showing him in that stasis tube though, giving an idea of how he could possibly survive to eat or drink.
One thing I will give this movie big props for...they could have easily gone the route of finding some way for Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor to survive and live in secret, but I'm glad they didn't do that. Yes, the Star Wars movies are science fantasy most times, but the second word in the title is Wars...and in war, not everyone gets a happy ending, despite the good they did and what their actions led to. Plus, it thankfully will silence any possible connection that Jyn is Rey's mom.
Though I will say besides the slightly off look of the CGI Cushing (to me) I will also say that Felicity Jones has some damn big eyes in this movie.
All in all, I enjoyed it and when it comes to home media, I think it'll be fun to watch this and the original film back to back.
...oh, and in another timeline, K-2SO would have been a perfect regular cast member on a Sci-Fi Sitcom, I think.

I just got back and I gotta say, HOLY SHIT! I think it did everything that the prequels did well, but without all the crap. It filled in blanks and had enough continuity to actually feel like a part of the original Star Wars trilogy, despite the original goal of making it a separate film. But what I liked most is that the overall tone was dark, like The Empire Strikes Back. This wasn't a kids film, people. Dark stuff ahead. And some other thoughts {Spoiler}{Spoiler} The crowd erupted when the screen went black and Vader lit his lightsaber. Shit was on!
His first appearance drew a few cheers, as did C3P0 and R2D2's brief scene. But the rush of adrenaline only continued when the rebels escaped in the Tantive IV, followed by Leia's appearance.
I would've liked it better if Imwe and Baze Malbus had a little more backstory, since I was unclear why they were exactly there in the first place, other than a "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" type thing. But considering they and everyone else dies at the end, I suppose it would've been a moot point. Especially considering they were likable for what we got.
We need more K2S0. Can't remember the last time I was sad after a droid died.
I read on TheForce.net that he was in one quick scene, but it was cut from the final theatrical release. I'd drop everything and go see the movie tonight if he were still in, just for the collective groan that'd come from a bunch of hyped Star Wars fans seeing the thing first chance seeing him on the screen. Just because you don't care about this movie, it doesn't mean all the fans need to be miserable.
