is Apollo having a son a retcon in and of itself? I don't recall that ever being a thing He mentioned his kids in Rocky II

Thank god. I thought this was gonna be about Creed releasing an album in 2015. This is actually more culturally relevant.

If only they could have kept the references to Rocky Balboa and the 'Rocky' franchise tenuous and minimal, then maybe I could have been on board with this. But then the second half of the trailer started and the air didn't just seep out of the balloon, the balloon got hit with a freaking cannonball.
Yeah, nothing like a "Gonna Fly Now" montage with a freaking dirt bike gang riding alongside the junior Creed. F***. THIS. S***T.

Then what would be the point of calling it Creed? It may as well be called "Inspirational Boxing Movie". From the second the news was released that they'd be making a "Rocky" spinoff based on the trials and tribulations of Apollo Creed's son, all I've wanted is for there to be no "Rocky" spinoff based on the trials and tribulations of Apollo Creed's son. The "Rocky" franchise ended on a nearly perfect note with "Rocky Balboa", especially considering the way it made amends for "Rocky V". Why go and sully that by placing Sylvester Stallone in downtown Philadelphia yet again for nothing more than a blatant cash grab? So from my perspective, I'd be totally on board with "Inspirational Boxing Movie". For example, I don't think "Southpaw" looks like it'll be anything special, but I'm way more on board with it than I would be if Jake Gylenhaal were playing Rocky's nephew or something.

I'm down with Southpaw too.
I just generally enjoy boxing movies. Gladiator, Great White Hype, Play it to the Bone, gimme all of 'em.
edit: Forgot Raging Bull. Whoops.

I would have gone with a title less likely to get used for jokes.
Also, I would say this makes me want to go watch Rocky, but I actually already did today.

That way "Rocky Balboa" will still be your preferred ending, like Neo putting the phone down and flying up into the sky is the only ending I acknowledge.

Looks pretty joyless and "intense."
I was really hoping for a prequel with a brash, trash talking Creed that ends with him hearing about some young kid named "Rocky" coming up the ranks.

I'm in. I like Rocky in the Mickey role and Fruitvale Station was great. I've been waiting for Michael B. Jordan to have his breakout moment since he was on The Wire.

Creed hearing about a young Rocky coming up the ranks wouldn't really work though, given that by that point Rocky didn't amount to anything.

That'll be my sacrifice. There's plenty of people saying this movie looks terrible, but what if it's really great? I mean, what if?!

I mean wouldn't Rocky know Apollo had a son? and what he looked liked? In Rocky IV they implied that the Balboa and Creed families were very close. And hopefully Duke is in the movie. He arguably has more history with Apollo than Rocky.
