Interesting opener for us today. We were very impressive going forward but utterly atrocious at the back. We need another CB because, as much as I love him, Colo doesn't have it any more. Our second goal was great and I hoped we would hang on but a draw was probably the right result. Decent point and one I would have taken pre-match but it is disappointing in a way since we led so late in the game. Really rough run of fixtures coming up so it's important to keep that in mind when we likely struggle for points over the next few games. Great moment in the Doncaster vs Bury match today. In the 89th minute and with the match goalless, a Bury player was injured so Doncaster put the ball out for a throw-in. Bury took the throw and gave it to their player who hit it towards the Doncaster Goalie but he over-hit it and it went into the goal (the player's reaction after showed he had no intention of scoring). There was a bit of discussion between the Benches and Officials and so from the kick-off the Bury players just stood there and let Doncaster walk the ball into their goal to equalise. It was the other way round (i.e. Doncaster accidentally scored and then allowed Bury to walk it in) but yeah it was a great moment and nice to see in modern day football.

Arsenal haven't had a really good opening day for quite a few seasons already. Optimist in me says there's plenty of time to pick things up.

Well we won 10 games in a row after losing at home to Villa on the opening day 2 years ago so hope we can do something like that this time. We were awful today seemed to have no ideas at all. Cech had a debut to forget.

I don't think I've ever seen a mediocre Coutinho goal.

Poor quality refereeing in the Norwich/Palace game. Still can't get the decision behind Jerome's disallowed goal and I've seen way softer penalties given. Nonetheless, those decisions can't mask how shocking Norwich's defence was...

So Bayern won 3-1 over a tier 5 team. Their performance was acutally much better than it sounds. The 3 goals they scored were early and were enough to rip Nöttingen's heart out. Never cool to concede one against a team like that but, to be fair, the goal they did score was an impressive one. I've no problem giving them that.
Mario Götze has been doing a great job of showing that Bayern might just miss him if he leaves. Even still, I don't know where he fits in Pep's scheme.
Here in the states, Bradley-Wright-Phillips, Felipe Martins, and the New York Red Bulls dealt with Lampard, Pirlo, Villa and company at New York FC to beat them 2-0. Nice to get a big win over them but, I guarantee that this is not the last we'll hear of New York FC.

Speaking of MLS, the penalty given yesterday to Sporting over a foul committed by TFC's Ahmed Kantari might have been the softest I've seen this year and that's saying a lot because MLS refereeing is atrocious. It was TFC's third game in eight days, but they stunk up the joint and SKC were deserving winners. The only highlight of the match was Sebastian Giovinco's through ball to Michael Bradley for Toronto's only goal. Giovinco is on another planet. He's easily the best player in the league this season.

Makes me kind of glad we lost the playoff final to you if that is the standard of refereeing we would have to put up with in the Premier League every week!

I'm sure Liverpool are already preparing themselves for Man City's bid for Coutinho next summer.

That was a terrible start for Arsenal. They never looked like scoring and I see went back to the "900 passes for no result" strategy
Terrible for Stoke too. They earned a draw but were beat by something special. Im not convinced about Liverpool yet though.
A draw for Chelsea as well. A very interesting first round. Im waiting for Man City vs WB

Nonetheless, those decisions can't mask how shocking Norwich's defence was... Appalling decision-making in Burnley/Leeds too. 2 strong penalty claims not given- one was a foul that I can understand why it wasn't given as Jutkiewicz managed to connect with the ball despite being fouled, making it look more like an attempted overhead kick, but the other was a clear-cut handball, referee couldn't see it but linesman just ignored it. Jutkiewicz later got split open with a stray elbow and nothing was given for it, too. That said we weren't good enough to win in spite of it. Despite putting in a superb cross for our goal, Darikwa looked defensively poor, and Mee could've done more to stop Leeds getting in the shot they scored from.

So Everton looked very ordinary in the 2-2 draw with Watford. Still have a leaky defense and with no Baines until November, I don't know if its going to get any better. Ross Barkley had a screamer for a goal and did look good so hopefully that's a positive. Lukaku had a nice assist to Kone for the goal that tied the game, but other than that, he looked disinterested for most of the game.

A great day for Manchester City. They put on probably the most dominant performance of anyone in the top tier of the premier league and, it looks like they're very close to a deal to bring Kevin De Bruyne to Etihad.

Terrible 1st half performance from West Brom which killed the game. Pulis got the tactics completely wrong.

West Brom did also have a few chances early in the second half to get back in it that were squandered.
Raheem Sterling also had a great chance to put the third goal on the board before halftime but didn't capitalize.
