Maybe it's a familiarity breeds contempt thing. I don't watch every show so I don't know if he's being super annoying in segments I haven't seen, but what I have seen of him since he returned has just been harmless comedy stuff. I'm more interested in the matches than the promos and the whole "who's getting the rub and what's good for business?" discussion anyway, and Jericho consistently delivers good matches so I am looking forward to seeing what he'll do in this run.

Many find his personality both on-screen and on his podcast to be very obnoxious.

He gets rumored to come back, denies it, everyone sees through it, then when he comes back, he yells "FOOLED YOU, MARKS!" like no one saw it coming. Add in that he's just stale as week old bread, and yeah....

Know whatcha get from stale bread? Croutons. And croutons are excellent. Invariably, they add flavor to any salad they're a part of. In the salad of WWE, we at last have croutons again

I general find him tedious because you just know whatever Jericho is going to do, it is going to have no consequence whatsoever.

I don't get why so many dislike him now. He can still go in the ring, is still good on the mic with the exception of a few corny things he says here & there. I do prefer him as a serious heel though. And it's not like he doesn't put over others when he's around. So what's with all the dislike for him now when most used to like him. He said something to the effect of the fans need to lay of Roman and let him do his thing. Basically a blasphemy in the eyes of the IWC. So we hate him now.

Whatever the case may be, after last night, it looks like WWE has big plans for him this run. Hopefully it will be something he can sink his teeth into, because the last couple runs haven't been so great.
As for meeting him... I went to a book signing for his newest book. I spent an hour watching him be SO cool to everyone. Well, when there was just a few people ahead of me, his wife and kids and (maybe?) mother in law walk in. They said they were going to get fiod, Chris stated interest in goint , wife says well this is going to take forever, Chris says to not worry and he will hurry it along. He then kinda blew the rest of us off. Blew off may be the wrong word, but we didn't get the completely engaged Jericho others did. That was a bit disappointing.

While I agree with a lot of what people are saying here (count me on finding him stale as hell) I know for me a lot of it comes from two specific areas as well.
#1 - We know he's not going to be around for very long. He's going to float through the Mania season and then bugger off sometime in the spring. There's virtually no chance of him doing anything impactful other than jobbing out to people. There's nothing wrong with this obviously as there's plenty of part timers, but with Jericho its so blatant that he's basically useless.
#2 - His actual "real life" personality is complete dreck. He's exceedingly obnoxious in a way that's borderline sociopathic, he oozes conceit to the point that he really deserves to be punched in the face. I can't tell you how many times over the last 2-3 years where I've just shaken my head at some of the stuff he's said or things that he found funny that weren't. And on top of that his absurd trolling of fans. I get that he probably gets hounded like crazy, but the way he acts in some respects is narcissistic.
I've gone from really liking and respecting the guy (and I still do to an extent in respect to his outstanding work in the ring), but I've gone almost complete 180 on him in recent years. I'd rather Jericho retire than Big Show at this point, and take the stupid jacket with you.
My opinion of him now takes nothing away from his accomplishments and the lauding he's deserved of when he does call it a career, but he just treads water now. He brings nothing to the table. He's like that 42 year old in the lineup that cant hit for shit anymore and is just playing on borrowed time.

I think Jericho is an all-time great who has a definite place in the Hall of Fame one day and has built up a legacy both in the ring and on the mic that solidly puts him in that strong second tier right below Austin and Rock of other Attitude Era greats. I just also think his tired, worn-out schtick is temporarily hurting that legacy by his not being able to leave well enough alone. He keeps coming back to diminishing returns and seems to take it poorly when people care less and less about him. Coming back to cut his first WWE promo but on the New Day is exactly what I mean. That's not the band playing their biggest hit to close out a show, that's showing up on stage, asking, "Hey, remember when we had that big hit?" and expecting rapturous applause. He hasn't really done anything in years that I've enjoyed, and just keeps clinging to how great his performances used to be. The way he responded to people who didn't like it really just clinched it all. At this point I would honestly appreciate Jericho more if they downgraded him to just coming in and having a segment on every nostalgia show they do rather than coming back for actual periods of time to do things that are supposed to matter. because i'm a BIG CONTRARIAN MEANIE!!!!!!!! That's right, it can never be a matter of taste and the fact that different people like different things, they have to just be doing it for the sake of doing it. Great contribution to the discussion and totally not a poor excuse used to try and shut down any actual attempt at conversation.

For personally, I'm just having fun going over the top the other direction(though I do now want him to win the Rumble) I don't care who likes or dislikes the guy in all seriousness. As far as his podcasts and such, don't listen to them so they aren't a factor for me
In short, while I know THIS BUSINESS of oiled up dudes pretending to do battle is to be taken with the utmost of seriousness, it's too entertaining to me to just have fun with it.
That said, Save.Us at the Rumble Obi Chris Kenobi, you're our only hope

I wish he'd do a little more quality control for himself but I guess that's true of almost every wrestler up there. All of Foley's great angles were mangled versions of his own ideas but he fought and fought and fought to maintain a certain quality to them and I don't think Jericho pushes as much, but even there who knows what goes on backstage. I imagine he's savvy enough to know that something needs to change with his act, and I know he's creative enough to come up with a way out if they'd let him. Things like Roman Reigns/Chris Jericho being such pals even though Jericho cold shouldered him and Ambrose the last time around I don't think is something Foley would have let slide. His off screen persona definitely comes off disingenuous but I don't really care about that so much.
I like Jericho and even though he's in a rough patch right now you never really know when he's gonna turn it around. I don't really hold his short stints against him because that's clearly bad booking where they constantly made it seem like he was back for good and he'd be gone in a week. I think he deserves some credit for being smart enough to become a house show act instead for a while.
