It's because old Jericho and new Jericho are like night and day. At one time you wanted to be like him and now you hope you don't end up like him. The way he turns up to have a few meaningless feuds and then vanishes again combined with the mind life crisis tattoos, it seems he is trying to hard to be that goofy guy in his 20s. It's like Grand Master Sexays return in 2011 except he still has some fans.

Even if he's being an awful babyface to set up a heel run, I don't like when guys are putting on bad television or playing stupid gimmicks to set up supposedly good material down the line. Bad on purpose is still bad, and it's the same damn thing he did in 2012, so even that trick is falling flat for me.

Familiarity breeds contempt.
I don't mind him, but a lot of people never felt his being gone, anyway, with his podcast, and so they just find his presence abrasive.

I've been kind of over him since the first time he left. I was a huge fan during his first run, was excited for all his matches, knew I'd see something I loved. I guess a guy with long blonde hair, rave clothes and ridiculous hair, being a wise ass is cool when the guy is like 25, when he's staring down the barrel of 50, it's just sad.

Honestly, while I don't think that Jericho coming back and doing Classic Chris is a bad thing, I think the issue is that he does it so darn often.
Like, when The Rock, HBK, or even Mick Foley make an appearance, they do their usual routine - spout catch phrases, pander to the audience, and generally eat up 10-15 minutes - and then go away until the next time they appear. But Jericho comes back, doing the same thing... and does it for 1-4 months before going away. And as people have mentioned, while he's putting people over when he feuds with them, it means a bit less every time since he never, eeeeeeeeeeeever wins... and yet, when they try to prove that yes, Y2J is still able to hang with these new guys, and he does get a win, people get upset because Jericho never wins what the hell.
...still, they should turn him heel for this run.

It's actually depressing to me how stale his act has gotten, which is sad for me to say because back in the late 90s and 2000s, you wouldn't have found a bigger Chris Jericho fan than I was. I remember him being the first heel I actively cheered for as a kid when he turned in WCW (to this day, I still wear my WCW Monday Jericho shirt with pride), and I was absolutely over the moon when he came to the WWF. Don't get me wrong, I loved loved LOVED the Y2J act back in 99-01; you would've been hard pressed to find a better promo than him at the time. But right about now, this is reminding me of how he was around 2005 or so, right before he got burnt out and left for 2 years. And when that happened, he initially came back as Y2J and people had the same complaints, then he reinvented himself and the rest, as they say, is history. I'm really hoping a Serious Jericho-esque reinvention (and I say "esque" because I don't want to see yet another retread) is on the way. In-ring, he still has a lot left to give. Chris Jericho and The New Day interacting in any capacity should've been absolute MONEY, and I'm still holding out some hope that it eventually can be.

Same deal I have with Cena, Orton and the Local Men.
I just really have no interest in seeing him. I've seen all he has to offer and at this point he's taking promo/match time away from someone I'd rather see.

It's like we love it when Ron Simmons shows up and exclaims "Damn!" a couple of times a year, but give him a regular thing for a couple of months where we hear it a couple of times a show, it would get very old. I almost feel like when Mick or Rock shows up (especially the former) and does catchphrases and panders, they do it with a wink and a nod to the audience. Jericho does his catchphrases and seems to be just as serious about them being cool as he did a decade ago.

The problem is his face act is stale and dull but they are sort of hinting some potential angle with him and Steph....it would be kind of cool if he won the rumble and became the new authority champ. He can still nail it as a heel and he can still go in the ring. Plus you could create some Steph/HHH tension with it if we need some McMahon family drama.

Whatever the case may be, after last night, it looks like WWE has big plans for him this run. Hopefully it will be something he can sink his teeth into, because the last couple runs haven't been so great. As for meeting him... I went to a book signing for his newest book. I spent an hour watching him be SO cool to everyone. Well, when there was just a few people ahead of me, his wife and kids and (maybe?) mother in law walk in. They said they were going to get fiod, Chris stated interest in goint , wife says well this is going to take forever, Chris says to not worry and he will hurry it along. He then kinda blew the rest of us off. Blew off may be the wrong word, but we didn't get the completely engaged Jericho others did. That was a bit disappointing. To be fair, I'd let that one slide. If hes already been there a while, and then his wife and kids want to go and do other stuff with him, that's fair enough. He did still go through everyone even if it was quicker than people would have liked, but he didn't just take off.

I think he's being corny as hell on purpose to set up his heel turn and character change. By WrestleMania everybody will be saying how awesome he is. If this is where he is headed, it would make perfect sense, especially after saying he was the "odds on favorite to win the Royal Rumble", along with the two actual favorites one hundred times on money. I could see him getting eliminated early and then completely snapping.

I've never listened to Jericho's podcast, is it like his more egotistical shit from his second and third books just turned up to eleven?

He used to be with it. Then they changed what it was. Now, he's not with it, and what's it is cold and scary to him.
And we, the Jerichoholics, know that it's already happened to us too and we just don't want to admit it because that would mean admitting we're old.

For personally, I'm just having fun going over the top the other direction(though I do now want him to win the Rumble) I don't care who likes or dislikes the guy in all seriousness. As far as his podcasts and such, don't listen to them so they aren't a factor for me In short, while I know THIS BUSINESS of oiled up dudes pretending to do battle is to be taken with the utmost of seriousness, it's too entertaining to me to just have fun with it. That said, Save.Us at the Rumble Obi Chris Kenobi, you're our only hope Obi Jerikenobi, it was right there!

Okay, a summary of why people used to like Jericho, but now don't (which is gutting because the first wrestling shirt I ever bought was a Jericholic one).
- He badly phrased some comments about Roman being a decent worker which made it sound like he was telling fans their opinions mattered less than his - When he tried to correct himself, he sounded like he was backtracking, which made some think he was spineless - His podcast with Steph led some to believe he is a shill for WWE - He has 'surprise' come back so many times now that it's not even comebacks any more, nor is it surprising, it's just 'Jericho showed up' - Because his post-2010 runs have been so brief, nothing he does means or achieves anything, his victories are meaningless and his losses are worse because he's lost to everyone - He went over Neville on a Japanese house show that they showed on the Network - He is keeping the seat warm for a bunch of injured top stars because WWE panicked and brought him back instead of trying to get over some of their younger guys, making him about the fourth most famous person in the Rumble - He's not as good as he used to be, in any respect - He is a living, breathing midlife crisis - He's not in as good shape as he used to be - He is perceived to have defended Bill DeMott - His second and particularly third books made him sound like an absolute, cast-iron bellend every other page
So, there is a lot of it. Some of it is fair, some of it isn't, some of it is subjective, some of it isn't, some of it is true, some of it isn't, some of it is based on Chris Irvine, some of it is based on Chris Jericho - it all adds up to a whole shitload of badwill.
Honestly, I've not really given a shit about Jericho since the night after Royal Rumble 2013.

- He is perceived to have defended Bill DeMott There is no perceived about his defence of DeMott, he basically dismissed all critics in a smug 'I'm a veteran' way. He tweeted “Hey @billdemott is a good friend & great trainer. If u can’t handle it then quit. My training at #HartBrothers camp was 10,000 times worse!” Then deleted it when he got replies like 'I love/sacrificed for pro wrestling. A Hart can stretch me any day. A know nothing dipshit slapping me when I'm concussed is different.' from Ethan Carter III, an actual victim of DeMott's training.

To all the people saying Jericho's doing this to be hated because he's about to become a heel...I got 2 questions for you.
1.) Why did Jericho dress and act this way pre-WWE return? 2.) Is there anything Jericho can do that forces you to say "ok, he's really fallen off, this is not a joke?"
Because judging from what I'm seeing if people say "he's lame now" people can come out and say "nah bro, it's for a reason man he's Jericho" and eventually it gets to a point where there's no end.

I see him going the Psycho heel Mr. Bob Backlund route when he snapped in 94. That was one of my favorite ever characters.
