Not for nothing, but the originators of the whole thing got outed for using "fix the industry" as a smokescreen for woman-bashing quite awhile ago. If this woman did something legitimately bad then it makes sense, but I genuinely hope this has nothing to do with whining over localization writing. It was cyclical at first. The first few people were up for "hey, this girl cheated on her boyfriend with 5 people, what a whore", then a load of people were like "wait, this Kotaku reviewer had sex with a game dev a week after writing a review of her game, what gives?" (I was in this group, in case anyone was wondering), then Anita jumped to her defense and there were the "shut up bitch" crowd, and then "So where's the rest of the videos you promised would be released over a year ago, and why do you keep lying in them?", then actual mysoginists looking for their excuse to jump on a well known feminist, then the cycle repeated ad nauseum until the actual campaign groups realised it was getting nowhere and gave up. of course the gaming sites they were going against would never report on the good cycles, or the actual good things GG (eg money for charity) were doing, or the shitty things AGG were doing (eg harassing TotalBiscuit and saying they hoped his cancer goes terminal), or the existence of women in the movement like ShoeOnHead, so an outsider's view of GG would just be.... basement dwelling neckbeards as stated above. I'm going to ask this politely: let's not play this game. People know full well what GG was/is.

I guess I fail to see the fact that says why she was fired. All I see so far are assumptions/guesses/reaches? Maybe I'm missing something obvious? I tend to skim gamergate shit because... well, it's gamergate shit.
People get fired all the time.

huh, every anti-GG person I know of (including myself) want him to kick cancer's ass. Just like every Gamergater is a woman hating neck beard, right? Took me and my wife forever to grow these things....

I've been using the internet regularly (discussion forums and such) since I was around 10/11 and Gamergate was the first time I realised I'm getting too old for this shit.
My brain instantly just forces me to take a u-turn if I ever come across anything involving this.

I'm not going to rush to judgment about what this woman did or didn't do, mainly because we don't know the whole story.
But I agree with a few others in this thread, the vitriolic internet culture surrounding gaming caused me to stay off social media or just not engage about gaming in general. Between GG, YouTube and death threats over stuff as trivial as very small COD weapon reload rates...I'd rather not even talk about it. And that's okay. It's just not for me anymore.

Call me cynical but I'm pretty sure the reason for her being fired has f*** all due to Gammergate and more to due with her views on Paedophillia and child porn.

Also wanted to add...how come Nintendo supposedly didn't know about this essay when they hired her? If it was that controversial, you would think a red flag like that would have popped up on a background check.
Unless there's something much more nefarious at foot that we don't know about. I doubt it's because stuff was censored out of English language localizations.

May I remind everyone to avoid blanket statements and let's try to not be judgemental of anyone's opinion. There's a lot of nuances involved in any GG discussion, let's not fall into the red vs blue mentality. It'll be locked if this gets out of hand, we start going in circles, or it becomes too one sided and turns into a bashfest.

I would be more inclined to believe Nintendo than others sources in this case:P

The tweety isn't showing up for me. What's it say? "Alison Rapp was terminated due to violation of an internal company policy involving holding a second job in conflict with Nintendo’s corporate culture. Though Ms. Rapp’s termination follows her being the subject of criticism from certain groups via social media several weeks ago, the two are absolutely not related. Nintendo is a company committed to fostering inclusion and diversity in both our company and the broader video game industry and we firmly reject the harassment of individuals based on gender, race or personal beliefs. We wish Ms. Rapp well in her future endeavors." And yes, they did 'future endeavor' her

It'll be locked if this gets out of hand, we start going in circles, or it becomes too one sided and turns into a bashfest. That's good to hear. As someone pro-GG, I don't see why it was in the title in the first place. Despite that PR statement, Nintendo knows a lot of people including plenty of families are not going to be happy with what this lady was doing in her "other profession". It wasn't GG who started this, she was exposed by Jaime Walton. She's a lady whom was sadly abused at a young age and started a organization against child sex-trafficking rings called the Wayne Foundation, so it'd be easy to understand why she'd be involved. Her organization was founded with her friend Kevin Smith, yes THAT Kevin Smith. This thing about her firing being an "organized hate campaign" is utter balderdash. In regards to GG, I'd point out that not only did we mangage to have a civil conversation for twenty pages the last time we had a thread for it, but it was never proven to be hate campaign or any such. You can't really call a group of racially diverse gamers of guys and girls a hate group. What are they supposed to be a hate group of? Also, no GG has still been active on Twitter for a long while. It never went away. But it can be easy to think that since Twitter has curiously prevented GG from auto-complete searches.

If this woman did something legitimately bad then it makes sense, but I genuinely hope this has nothing to do with whining over localization writing. Yes & no. The remnants of Gators took offense to the localization changes Nintendo was making for games like Xenoblade X and Fire Emblem and decided zero in on Rapp to be the person they decided to take it out on. Rapp did publish an essay while in college 4 years ago wherein she essentially argued in favor of less strict Child Pornography laws in Japan. All of that, including her tweets defending her paper happened over 4 years ago.
