I'm going to ask this politely: let's not play this game. People know full well what GG was/is. UMMMM So discussion is not allowed on this topic? Honestly I've only heard one overwhelming side on this whole thing so I'd like to hear some more here. Discussion's allowed; what's not cool is re-fighting the entire thing when there's endless information about it available online. I fully believe there are those who were drawn into the whole thing with genuine hopes to address the shortcomings of video game media coverage. I'd also hope that the long stream of revelations concerning the inner workings/purpose of the group made it something people would rather not associate with once that all came to light. My hope in this situation is that there was an actual conflict of interest here for Nintendo stemming from some other type of work she was doing that may have gone against their company rules. In other words: I hope it's safe to take Nintendo on their word, here, which would be the best outcome.

If this woman did something legitimately bad then it makes sense, but I genuinely hope this has nothing to do with whining over localization writing. Yes & no. The remnants of Gators took offense to the localization changes Nintendo was making for games like Xenoblade X and Fire Emblem and decided zero in on Rapp to be the person they decided to take it out on. So they don't realise that the Skin-shipping (or whatever the f*** it's called) in the new Fire Emblem is actually pretty creepy by Western standards and would have forced a higher rating than NOA would have been comfortable with right? Or is it that they're purely opposed to anything been removed like how people on the internet were bitching about content being removed from the localisation of Mugen Souls because it sexualised and had you perving on a girl that looks like she's 12 years old? edit: or like how people on the internet (ie tumblr) bitched about NOA removing a glitch present in the Japanese Tomodachi Life where characters genders would be a bit stuffed up so they could get into same sex relationships?

So, yeah, I found some pics on Rapp's own Twitter account, posted by her herself that kind of hints at what her second job was and why it was against Nintendo's policy. Basically, Nintendo had justifiable reasons to fire her. There's really nothing else to see here. Just another person fired for breaking company policy. Happens all the time.

Gamers lately have been having a really odd obsession for anything they perceive as censorship. Like the Blizzard's forum for Overwatch erupted because they removed a Butt-pose for one of their female characters.

I actually thought myself for a moment that they were lying because they wouldn't want to admit they had someone defending child porn on their payroll, but what you said is correct. Problem is, Anti-GGer's out there in the Web and other nutty people will blame Nintendo for caving in to GG despite them having nothing to do with it. Thankfully, said people aren't really their customers so I don't see this hurting Nintendo that badly. They might take a short-term hit, but that's about it I think.

Taking something as minor as that is certainly self-censorship.

It wasn't just a Gamer Gate thing and I think it has less to do with that rather than Nintendo finding some sort of fault with her. Here archive.is/VtLBx and in other tweets you can find Jamie Walton having issue with Alison Rapp as well and she has nothing to do with GG. On GG I'll say this I think it's a complex issue at the end of the day it's an internet hastag that can be used by anyone and I think most people aren't in it to harass anyone and overall both sides of the thing are headache inducing.

Here's something I saw on a different board that sums up the problems with this Rapp situation: A single complaint vs. numerous other customers that had no issue with it. Still seems awfully fishy to me. A user made a complaint and a dev happened to agree with it. There's no conspiracy. No there isn't because this in no way comes close to a conspiracy. But taking one complaint and then taking it out of a game because of it is silly. What it really is is imbalanced customer service.

If there are rules being broken, please alert a moderator and we will handle it. People just posting an ABANDON THREAD Gif and hardly anything else. Its one thing to do it when a thread is started by the occasional troll or when a thread really does go off the rails, but there has been no good cause for that in this and other threads where I've seen this going on.

It's a joke on the controversial nature of a topic. Nothing more, nothing less. FAN likes to keep things light as a whole, so you can't fault the userbase for adding in levity when possible to keep things from getting all grimdark or CSPAN up in here. I wouldn't have it any other way, personally.
