I'm so happy to read all these glowing reviews for the film. It goes to show that when you don't meddle with these directors in an effort to maximize profits and toy sales, you stand a chance to get a film that can very likely make you a ton of cash just on the merits of being a good movie. It's no surprise that three of the best reviewed comic adaptations of all time are The Dark Knight, Deadpool, and so far Logan. Talented filmmakers were set loose to make a passion project.
From a personal standpoint, I've been looking more forward to this than any other film this year. As you can tell by my name/avatar combo, the X-Men mean a great deal to me. I re-read Chris Claremont's epic run once every couple of years, and my shelves at home are full of X-Men figures, statues, etc. To know that I'm finally going to see Logan handled like a person rather than a one-dimensional action star is very exciting for me. I'm already assuming I'll be shedding tears during this one.

The movie has 3 minutes added to it that the press didn't see in their version.
Has to be a good after credits scene

So is 'American Idol' finalist Bo Bice in this playing a character named "Blogan" or not? Reading conflicting reports.

96% out of 55 reviews so far. I'm so happy. I can't wait to see it even if it may emotionally destroy me.

Saw the movie last night at 10:23 pm (genius move by whoever came up with that idea), and it was fantastic. Genuinely one of the best superhero movies of all time for me. Hugh Jackman is phenomenal, this is his best performance as Wolverine. The way he's limping around all the time really gives you the idea that this guy is screwed up physically and is barely struggling to get through life. Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier was a beautiful way for him to leave the role. And Dafne Keen is going to have a bright future ahead of her. Her facial expressions as X-23 are on point, and she's an absolute badass. I really hope there's an X-23 movie in the future. I'm really interested in seeing how her story continues. This movie is so, SO violent. I severely underestimated how much blood would be in this movie. This is one of the most violent films I've seen in a while, and it makes the mansion scene in X-Men 2 look like a kid's film. There's a pretty big twist halfway through the film that I'm very impressed was able to be kept quiet, so don't read any spoilers on what this twist is. I have to admit that I welled up at a couple of times during the movie which I'll mention in the spoilers section below. Logan is a great way to send Hugh Jackman off and if this is his last performance as Wolverine, then I'm glad that this movie was the way to say goodbye to him. So yeah, turns out there's an X-24 which is basically a younger, more savage clone of Wolverine who ends up killing both Logan and Xavier. That's mental that they managed to keep that quiet.
Xavier's death was gutting especially because while I was kind of expecting it, I was shocked at how he died. Did not see the X-24 twist coming at all, and you genuinely feel in that moment that the character of Charles Xavier deserved a better way to go out than being stabbed in his bed.
I can't say I was too shocked that Logan died especially since the marketing for this movie was really sombre and pushing the 'Hugh Jackman's last ride as Wolverine' angle, but it was still a pretty ballsy move to do it. One of my friends was grumbling a bit because he thought Logan should have went out in a more noble fashion than getting impaled by a tree, but he died saving children which is pretty in keeping with the Wolverine character so I don't have a problem with it.
His last words of "So this is what it feels like" got the tears in my eyes I have to admit. The movie does a damn good job of really making you know that this guy has seen and done a lot of crap and he's just so tired of it all.
It makes me wonder how they'll handle the Wolverine character going forward if they do decide to us him again. The final shot of X-23 turning the makeshift cross into an X was the best ending shot you could've came up with as well.
Brilliant movie, and what a belter of a way for Hugh Jackman to end his Wolverine career. Thanks for being the badass Wolverine my generation grew up with.

{Spoiler}The basic gist of what I'm getting from the spoilers is The Road meets X-Men. Killing off Xavier and Logan? Don't need that kind of downer in my life. Hard, hard pass.

f***ing hell, that was the best superhero movie I've ever seen. {Spoiler}and holy crap, I did not expect that X-24 twist. Charles opening up while he thought he was talking to Logan, only to be killed by X-24 was heartbreaking. This was such a different comic book movie compared to everything else out there today. James Mangold did an amazing job here.

Ill try to see this next week, as I don't care for crowds.
Also, I get that this "may or may not" be Logan's last ride, but it sucks that we never got him in an Avengers movie.

It's crazy to think that Patrick Stewart has been playing Professor Xavier longer than he did Captain Picard.

Just got back, and I'm still blown away. The X-franchise has needed something like this for a long time. Not necessarily gory and full of foul language, but something on a small scale that really digs into characters rather than effects and sci-fi macguffins. I found it thoroughly moving.
Also, the acting here was top notch from everyone. It's a damn shame this won't get a look during next year's awards season, because Jackman and Stewart, along with Daphne Keen really brought it.

{Spoiler}Just saw it in a packed, but respectfully quiet, theater.
I thought it was above average, the score was fantastic and the idea of an older Logan was really well executed. The scenes of Logan accepting a daughter and really understanding what to love/being loved was like was great as well.
That said, I felt parts of this movie took itself way too seriously. The pathos and downer parts weren't as super unnecessary and needlessly conflicted as The Dark Knight Rises or Man of Steel were, but there were a few points that really felt like it was trying too hard to be the edgy not-for-kids hard-R version of a comic book movie with a character that has had several Saturday morning cartoon shows.
This really didn't have to be R-Rated. That level gore was really needless, as was the nudity.
I also this the X-24 clone was a pretty underwhelming surprise. Like, that clone bullshit is what turned off so many people about Marvel and is such an easy cop out for stories in the comics.
I do think there's a subtle touch for how the past 17 years has built up the whole Wolverine "Doesn't like guns," and then ultimately his last most needed act of heroics involved him using a gun to kill the bloodline of the person who originally made him Wolverine, as well as put an end to his own line of tortured genetics with the adamantium bullet.
The girl playing his daughter was amazing and I have no idea how they cast her, there must be some agent with hundreds of hours of tween-adamantium-rage audition footage.
Stephen Merchant as Caliban really blew me away and is the unsung hero of the whole thing. Amazing performance. Wonderful score too, maybe the best of any X-Men film.
Overall, I don't think this is really the end. Professor X dead in an unmarked grave next to a lake and Logan buried by the next line of mutants strikes me as too edgelord. It's also only been, what, 15 years since the retconned years of Days of Future Past? Where is everyone else? Do all mutants just die in their 40s or something? I can buy no new mutants being born, and Logan being a loner, but how does this explain everyone losing touch with Xavier?
It's worth seeing, but there's been better X-Men films, and the running foreshadowing of death fake-outs makes me believe Logan isn't really dead and this isn't the last hoorah.

Saw it last night, thought it was absolutely wonderful. It paints a bleak, stark landscape against the dusty, forgotten parts of America beautifully, with Jackman and Stewart likely giving the performances of their careers.

Another thing I really appreciated about the film was that despite being set in the future, they didn't go crazy with bullshit technology and clothing. There were sensible upgrades to modern technology that didn't seem outlandish, and people still dressed normally. Far too many movies go 10 years into the future and turn shit into The Jetsons.
