Kind of telling the movie's out next weekend and this thread hasn't updated in months. Only reason I even dug the thread up is I wanted to see if anyone was talking about how the movie is apparently being held hostage by hackers. Kind of the most interesting about it.

It's weird, I can't decide whether there's less excitement for a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie or a fifth Transformers movie.

Strange that in 2007. The first installment of transformers and the 3rd installment of pirates came out that year. 10 years later both of their 5th installments come out the same year. don't know why I pointed that out

It's "Dead Men Tell No Tales" in North America, "Salazar's Revenge" worldwide.

DMTNT is definitely a superior title... if somewhat inaccurate, since dead men tend to be pretty damn chatty in the Pirates of the Caribbean universe.

I'm guessing the two titles thing is because of Disney not being able to trademark the phrase "Dead Men Tell no Tales" in certain domains. I know there is a British film from years ago with that title but I doubt it would have caused any problems there, let alone the vast majority of countries where it's going by the Salazar's Revenge title.
I do know that it's a pretty recent change as the marketing material for the UK did carry the original title but for some reason, they changed it here.

I still think the film's gonna be shite anyway. A name change is the least of its worrries.

I wouldn't count on it. The last one had some hype going into it if only due to people hoping for a bit of a return to form with the story arc of the second and third wrapped up and the shift in focus, plus it was six years ago at the point when Depp really had more value than he does now and could still kind of elevate movies just by being involved with them compared to all the flops he's had in recent years and it came out basically completely unopposed with Thor three weeks before it and X-Men a month later being the closest major threats while this one has GotG, Alien, and Wonder Woman all ready to drag it down.

It's going to bring in a lot of money, I'm pretty sure, but I wouldn't expect a billion.

This may sound echo-ish, but I enjoyed the first. I loved the second with the score, the increasing drama, Davy Jones is still visually amazing and a compelling character and a great cliffhanger ending.

But that third movie... they tried to do WAY too much in way too small a span. Never even bothered with the fourth. Just have no reason to come back for five, why further tarnish the movies I do enjoy?
