If it was just a random chick and she's making a fuss, that's pretty f***ed up. Buuuuut, I'm in camp "I'm Pretty sure that's No Way Jose." So are you saying you think it's No Way Jose or no way No Way Jose? ... Yes.

Not going thru 8 pages but isn't it racist for the internet to ASSUME that's a black woman?

This thread is actually a reason why I love this place. Yeah this thread is pretty heated but it's also been pretty civil and you see a lot of sides presenting there argument. Even the ones arguing why is this thread is still even open.

Why is this a racist thing against a black woman? I'm a white man and my hair looks like that. I'm sorry to hear that Thank you for insulting me and my family.

I'm a black women with a hairstory. That hairstory includes many instances of catching hell for anything I've done to my hair. That hairstory also includes many instances of having to suck my teeth when white folks say ignorant and downright mean things about how black women wear our hair. I've had to do it here a few times. So, I'm not willing to suffer Rose's foolishness. Especially during a time when white women are cutting a fool of social media and getting praise for it.

Honestly, even removing the race elements from this, I hate this culture these days of passive aggressively snapping a photo of someone to mock them online. Doubly so if you're famous and therefore have an entire legion of creepy fans to help with the mocking. What happened to dealing with shit head-on?

I will say that the woman's hair in question gives me more of a Cammy vibe than anything. Her weird comments about unobstructive hair were really unnecessary, but it's not like she's wearing cornrows or dreadlocks. As for the China/Japan thing, I think Japan gets more of its origins from Korea, specifically (the ethnic Yamato Japanese anyway; the indigenous Ainu people likely have a different ethnic origin from Siberia), though Japanese kanji are characters taken directly from Chinese characters. Though it is important to note that ethnic enclaves can develop entirely different cultural attitudes based on their status in their new home. Again using the Japan example, while a lot of Japanese nationals might not have a problem with tourists and other gaijin wearing kimonos, Japanese Americans might think their culture is being appropriated and mocked by the majority white population. Yeh pretty much, but then raises the questions that if the people living where the culture originated have no issue and WANT that to happens (including the fact that it really helps the japanese Kimono market from diying). Is it really a bad thing? Is it just different point of views and just meaningless personal opinion? It does show to have some benefits. On the Miley twerking thing,I can't say from american experience. But it was alreayd pretty popular before. if anything,Miley made it more lame since well...it was awful.

Since I'm not even going to try and enter the racial side of the debate, because as a white Australian male it's something I can't even begin to get a fair perspective on... This is what probably rings the most alarm bells for me. I'm VERY photo-shy in nature, and the idea that someone I don't even know has taken a photo of me without my knowledge or consent for the express purpose of mockery scares the f*** out of me.

You know what is blatantly racist but never gets called out? Radio stations that never play hip hop (other than iconic songs that break the barrier), but have no issues playing Iggy, Eminem, Macklemore, etc. So you won't play rap unless it's a white artist? I've never heard a hip hop radio station play Jason Derulo music just because he's black, yet I've seen it far too often going the other way. I know it's off topic but it continually drives me nuts. Even worse are the stations that play top 40/adult alternative stuff, but cut the rap verses out of them. Stuff like Talk Dirty without 2 Chainz & California Gurls without Snoop Dogg. But the weirdest one was they cut Wiz Khalifa out of See You Again and replaced it with Charlie Puth singing a bunch of filler lines. I was amazed that they were somehow able to cut the lead artist out of his own song. But you know, can't let that pesky rap music get in the way!

I kind of hate having (normal) photos of me taken. I'm a pretty private person and I hate having people intrude into my life like that. And yes, I know, this will provoke many people to ask "Why are you so private, WHAT HAVE YOU GOT TO HIDE, HUH? WHAT SOCIALLY UNACCEPTABLE SKELETONS DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR CLOSET???"

I remember there was an adult contemporary station that would play "Nothin' On You" by B.o.B and Bruno Mars, they edited out half the B.o.B verses despite it being his own song.

For "See You Again", they didn't leave anything from Wiz in the song. I was more impressed that they had the balls to do that then anything. I want to say I'm shocked that they still do stuff like this today, but sadly I'm not since I know a few people that listen to stations like this all the time.

It's different perspectives and experiences, really. Japanese people in Japan are the dominant culture. Japanese people in the United States are far from it. People are also not a hive mind, so you'll probably find some Japanese-Americans who don't care or are alright with it or some Japanese nationals who are pretty offended by some dumb gaijin trying to hijack their culture. Basic rule of thumb, if someone's offended by it, it's probably just best to apologize and move on.

The only time I'll even let that pass is the rap verses added for no reason for radio, like ET or Girl on Fire
