I like the interactions the group has with each other, pushing a car with your friends is probably the most unique way a FF game ever started.
I'm doing some of the side quests now to level up a bit in the first chapter.

The battle system still isn't clicking with me. I can't see anything what's going on, but it doesn't matter because I just hold down circle and I win, anyway. There's also the fact it seems impossible to die.

Final Fantasy XV in three days has sold over 5 million copies worldwide, just over half of what Square needs them to sale in order to break even.
I think they'll not only break it within the coming weeks, but go down as one of the most sold games ever. Think its safe to say that Final Fantasy is back in mainstream gaming.

There's also the fact it seems impossible to die. How far in the game are you? It gets tougher around chapter 4 or 5. {Spoiler}Imperial Dropships start appearing, even when you're in the middle of fighting other enemies so as well as monsters you end up with a dozen soldiers to contend with.
On chapter 7 or 8 they start sending teams of assassins too who can take half your health with one hit. I've died a few times now either thanks to not been tactical enough with exploiting enemies weaknesses or been overwhelmed by a huge horde of enemies.

So I gave in and bought the game. If someone could come up with a solution to the patch problem, I'd really appreciate it.

Has anyone got to Alticia yet?
Where the heck is the hotel? I want to rest and level up my characters but can't find the hotel at all. Must have traipsed around that city a dozen times.

How do you summon? I got the first 2, had them appear once but can't figure out how to do it again.

Also, be sure to ride the gondola and have your caricature done in Alticia for some great dialogue between the four.

Damn, that's almost Blizzard-esque in terms of early sales.

I've just started chapter 3, am level 21.
It's odd. The game seems to have just gone from relatively easy slaughtering of animals to throwing huge squadrons of snipers at me.
I very much miss having the ability to use white magic.
Combat system has grown on me, though I really dont like that the companions more get in the way than actually add anything to the fights. The should have done a lot more with how they could be set up and customised/ordered around.
Not being able to take the car off road is also annoying, but I guess they needed to make the chocobos useful for a change.
Enjoying over all, would say maybe 7/10 for me but there are some really silly things missing regarding the companions battle tactics that seem so obvious, I dont know why they are missing.

About the other characters. If you level up the teamwork attributes it unlocks new double team abilities and attacks for your team which makes them much more useful in combat.

Not reading this thread too deeply until I buy the game. Which I will buy once this semester is over and dead with. Question is, is it worth it? More positives than negatives I hope?

Well worth the purchase. Only negatives for me are reduced magic unless more spells appear later in the game and unable to assign orders to your team. Everything else about it is solid.

Yeah I've heard about the reduction in magic, which is a shame, though honestly I think I can live without. My favorite Final Fantasy was controversially 8,and in that game I rarely, if ever, used magic other than to junction.

So er, one thing that's been bothering me and I hope you guys can shed some light on... is the product placement very intrusive? I mean, I just saw a video of a quest that was basically just one of the characters going on about how great Cup Noodle is. Admittedly they do seem to have at least tried to make it funny by having him give a really forced read like it's a cheesy ad and Noctis reply with a deadpan "yeah, yeah... whatever you say" (Squall, is that you?) and I also saw that there are freaking American Express logos on store windows, because apparently America is a thing in the world of FFXV.
To be fair, I can see why American Express would want product placement in this game because we all know how teenage gamers, the game's core audience, are the demographic with the largest disposable income and are always looking for good banking advice.

I didn't know cup noodles was a brand, I thought it was just a generic term for noodles in a cup so that one went over my head. One which stands out to me is Vivienne Westwood of all people getting mentioned as {Spoiler}{Spoiler}the designer of Luna's wedding dress. I haven't noticed TOO much of it though but seeing Vivienne Westwood crop us was a bit of a wtf moment.
