At least the film's plot does give Deckard Shaw a character arc to turn him babyface. And saving Dom's son probably was a way to make good on killing Han. I had a bigger problem with Owen Shaw suddenly turning up like "He's good now!" He had no screen time to set this up and it was a glorified cameo that made zero sense. Deckard was angry in a misdirected sense of family loyalty, but now he realizes it was Cipher that was behind it.

{Spoiler}Misguided or not, we're still talking about someone who intentionally murdered a member of Dom's extended family being accepted into said family. Power of forgiveness, redemption and all that, sure, but it's an awkward situation whichever way you spin it.
