TBF I can't keep up with all the victims of 2016 either. The bigger issue is they used the wrong person's image... that picture is Jan Chapman who is an Australian Producer... when the name was Janet Patterson a costume designer.

People were like "Ugh, Jared Leto looks stupid." Well he just won an Oscar! People said "Ugh, Killer Croc looks terrible." Well Adebisi now has an Oscar! People said "Ugh, Joel Kinnaman is a talentless charisma vacuum." Well he's got an Oscar! I don't know how the Oscars work. Since the Oscar went to the Make-Up team and not the actors that had the make-up applied to them, your last statement is correct.

I read about La La Land-what was the point of the film with that kind of ending? Oscar Bait. The entire point of movies like that is to win awards. I think it's lame as hell. It was also a beautifully constructed film with great performances and songs that millions of people have enjoyed. Oscar-bait is right though, just like the film that won and has made $22 million since September.

Oscar bait. Summed up perfectly by Eddie Murphy in Bowfinger. Never got a nomination because he hadn't played a slave who got his ass whipped. The Academy loves that. They also love it when a white guy plays an idiot. Get the role of a retarded slave, and you can win an Oscar.
Then again, RDJ (who appears in Bowfinger) said you never go full retard in Tropic Thunder. So you gotta find that balance.

The fact that we learned that the People's Eyebrow is Rock's genuine shocked reaction makes this all worth it. Friends with Michelle Williams. Indeed. She's been Michelle's date for every awards show since forever, it seems. Best friends since Dawson's Creek. Does that mean Michelle Williams is single? 😝

So one thing I've never understood is the difference between Best Picture and Best Director.
Maybe it's just me, but direction IS the movie. The 'picture' itself is the production, which to me not as important to value because it's not delivering what the movie is, as much as it's just saying "these guys worked hardest", which isn't something I look at overall when I'm watching a movie. Afterall, I may be determined to work harder to win in a game of basketball, but if I'm playing Jordan, I'm still going to get my ass kicked.

DAMN!!! Yeah, that Janelle Monae is pretty. And very talented. Sings, and was in two huge movies, both nominated for best picture, and in the winning picture.

It helps, but I've seen movies with wonderful direction but poor editing or acting or something that is directed and acted fine but just isn't particularly entertaining. Best picture is meant to be the sum of the whole, acting, directing, editing, sound mixing, etc. added together instead of just focusing on the specific aspect.

She was signed by Big Boi (Outkast) about 10yrs ago for his label. Had a phenomenal song/feature on his solo album called "Be Still". Know her from back then. Beautiful talented lady

Best picture is meant to be the sum of the whole, acting, directing, editing, sound mixing, etc. added together instead of just focusing on the specific aspect. Vision, identity, execution, authenticity, mise en scene, motif all can contribute to Best Director as well. It's natural that a film with all that going for it has a chance of being a Best Picture nominee or winner, but plenty of examples where Direction nomination or award is deserved but the Picture doesn't stand up as a whole for whatever reason outside of those artistic factors listed above.

Funny enough, during the commotion at the end, I noticed one guy on the stage that looked like an older Matt Damon.
Turns out, THAT was Brian Cullinan!
Let the conspiracy theories begin, that "Brian Cullinan" is really Matt Damon from the future who went back to ruin Jimmy Kimmel's Oscars.
