From what I've heard, he and Zac Efron are the best parts, but that's kind of to be expected.
Some of this is just that 2 hours or so is simply too long for a movie like this. Had they employed better editing, it'd probably have a little more critical support.

I still don't see the point of movie critics. Everyone has different tastes, so it seems redundant for a single person to try and review something for a mass group of people who all have different ideas. That being said, critics are a part of the industry. If an actor/director/whoever gets personally bothered by bad reviews, they're probably in the wrong line of work. I think they're important in the sense that I use them as a barometer of whether it might be worth seeing in the theaters and spending money on especially with tickets being expensive. Generally speaking, I've found anything below a 50 on Rotten Tomatoes nine times out of ten I usually end up hating if I decide to watch it so it's handy for that.

I'll be honest, as a guy who wants to give most things a chance I find I rarely like a movie that got mostly bad reviews. that's not to say its never happened but if something is universally loathed there's usually a damn good reason.

Film criticism used to be done by people who actually understood the various aspects of filmmaking and generally understood the creative process. From what I've seen now it's largely people complaining the film wasn't made specifically to their tastes and/or isn't similar enough to something else in the same genre. Especially with superhero movies or sequels. Before, if something was more interesting/original/different than what came before it was given more of a chance. Now reviewers seem to crave uniformity across a "brand" and assessing it's place in the overall franchise rather than actually analyzing the director's intent/vision. An aspect of film criticism I enjoy is when a lesser-known film is reviewed. I mean, one of several thousand reviews of the next Marvel film is basically pointless, but highlighting a film that doesn't have a multimillion dollar marketing budget is actually useful to me. The most pathetic part of modern film criticism is the oh-so coveted RT score. A percentage that indicates how generic a film is, yet for some reason is held up as the gold standard for makes a "good movie." Reducing an entire creative work and someone's assessment of it to a percentage based on an insipid binary distinction is a joke. This poster gets it. Though no one should be surprised. In terms of this sort of topic, he's always on point. There are film critics. And there are wannabes. Film critics destroyed Baywatch or at least pleasantly dismissed it after viewing. I'm sure plenty of the wannabes did too. Truth be told, most film critics were probably busier scouting what's taken place at Cannes than wasting their time with a serious historical assessment of Baywatch. Wannabes and people with shrines dedicated to Rotten Tomatoes are probably left in the dark, trying figuring out what "cann-us" is. As for The Rock, he'll watch whatever movie from Cannes or wherever that his agent tells him to watch for PR purposes once public appearance time at awards shows or galas rolls around. And speaking of actors who bomb. Might want to keep an ear out for The Meyerowitz Stories. "What's that?" you ask. Possibly a pleasant surprise related to this notion of people who can't make a good movie to save their lives. Though Noah Bambach gets the credit from me. We will see how it holds up over the summer and fall festival of reviews.

Who the hell asked for a Baywatch movie? Anyways, I got all that I needed to hear about it from Lupa who put it this way "it's not a good movie but it's not godawful either, it's just kinda bad"

People like simple movies. Whats wrong with wasting 90 minutes watching something that gives you a few chuckles? I mean it's a comedy spoof of friggen BAYWATCH.

You have no idea how unpleasable the average movie goer is. I would point towards the IMDB.com comment section for clear crystal proof of this but they deleted the imdb.com forums due to it being the barren, desecated wasteland home section of the never-pleased movie snob who have a million reasons why any given movie is 'the worst movie of all time'

Wonder if this movie could have done better if they had gotten their original choice The Miz instead.

Lowest common denominator movie not getting praised by critics, newsstory at 11!!
No disrespect, but Rock should be thankful that so many people spend money on his empty silly flicks. Dude isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he does know his business (aka fattening his pockets), nobody can argue with that. I just wish people were more selective/smarter

Whoever thinks Grown Ups 2 is good though...YEESH!

If only the Rock adapted this Baywatch:
It wouldn't be panned as it was.

I'll probably end up watching it, The Rock is really entertaining in everything. Also Priyanka Chopra is in it and that is a pretty pretty lady.

This is a really good article that aligns well with my thoughts when I hear people rail against film critics. culturaloutsider.com/the-public-perception-of-film-critics-is-ridiculous/I feel more people are pissed about a RT score than the actual opinions of these individuals. Like, no one actually reads reviews to understand why a person didn't like something, they just see a percentage that's a bit too low for them and lose their shit.

It'll be 90 minutes of dick jokes and bouncing tits that you'll forget five minutes after it ends. Nothing more, nothing less.

Unsurprisingly, Baywatch was dead in the water. Heard it only made 26 million.

Unsurprisingly, Baywatch was dead in the water. Heard it only made 26 million. This is another thing that critics brought up saying that the movie bombed, and Rock showed his lack of movie/promoting knowledge. Saying the movie made 30% of it's money back is great for 26 million on a 75 million dollar budget and not opened internationally, but fails to realize that doesn't include the extra 40+ million the studio spent to promote the movie, meaning the movie is still nearly 100 million in the hole. So unless the movie kicks complete ass overseas, this movie will tank critically & financially.
