toofab.com/2017/05/26/dwayne-johnson-the-rock-baywatch-critics-bad-reviews-twitter/It still feels weird saying "Dwayne Johnson" to me. I still think of him as the Rock. Anyway - it seems like Dwayne wasn't happy with how the critics responded to Baywatch. Add another case of "disconnect between critics and audiences." Personally I do think critics fall prey to a bit of "groupthink" from time to time. That or they go in with an idea of what the movie SHOULD be already (which is the case with adaptations/remakes/etc especially). I always find it strange when someone critiques a movie for what it COULD HAVE/SHOULD HAVE been versus what the director was trying to accomplish. That being said, nothing about this Baywatch movie seems that intriguing to me.

I love how whenever movies get bad reviews, its always those mean, curmudgeony writers who must hate everything, gosh darn it!
Not to insult, but the average person is an idiot. As Mr. Burns put it, you just slap on a pair of oversize breasts & a happy ending, and they'll come back oinking for more.

Not sure why he even cares, it was always unlikely to be a critical success anyway.
In a few years he'll probably be able to make fun of it himself like he does with Doom.

I can definitely understand why Rock is frustrated. There's always going to be these comedies where they won't generally get great critical scores yet the audiences love them. Look at both Grown Ups movies where they got awful reviews from critics, but made a shitload of money. At the end of the day, you can't rely entirely on what professional movie critics say if you're wanting real perspectives; user reviews matter too.
Now, when it's something like Dawn of Justice where both critics and users hated it, it's much simpler.

Ok Rock, I think you should pretty much accept this as proof that the movie thing just isn't working out for you and you should return to pro wrestling full time. If you hurry now you could be back in time to put over Jinder Mahal at the next PPV.

I know, I'm just pointing out the wildly different reactions of Grown Ups between critics and average moviegoers. Dawn of Justice was going to make bank since the day it was announced, lol.

It's not like this is a movie critics went into it with preconcieved negativity like say an Adam Sandler film. The only other similiar recent thing to Baywatch was 21 Jump Street( alsoA comedy rebooted from a non comedy tv show) and 1 of it's stars Channing Tatum wasn't really thought of as a comic actor going into that. And that movie got mostly good reviews.

Aren't most of the Rock's movies critically panned? You'd think he'd be used to it by now, especially since it hasn't hurt his popularity at all.

This was never going to be a good movie so he should take the bad reviews with stride. He's had disappointing movies like Hercules which was okay but not up to par but Rock should learn Baywatch is not the Hill to die on especially when you got Jumanji coming next with Kevin Hart which could also be bad.

It's crazy that a movie making 870 mil can be considered a disappointment but it should've easily broke a billion, it's only real competition for highest grossing of 2016 should've been Civil War, Rogue One and maybe Finding Dory but not only did it fall behind those (who all made a billion) but also behind a movie where Kevin Hart voiced a rabbit.

I remember some people were rather critical of The Game Plan and The Tooth Fairy, but in all fairness, I had read that he did those for his daughter. The Fast & Furious movies haven't been critically panned, although the eighth film was met with mixed reviews. The only one from the past five years that was panned was GI Joe.

He sort of gets a pass on the Disney films because he did those for his daughter. As far as since he's been a star his movies has gotten mixed reviews but for the most part DJ himself is not the problem by the eyes of some critics
