Eh everyone needs to realize something: enjoying the lowest level of comedy (cheapest possible jokes, simple setups, simple onedimensional characters, trivial story, no emotional connection) like Grown Ups 2 (just an example, stuff like White Chicks also applies) does say something about one's taste and preference. Not challenging yourself in the least, not caring the least about the effort put in the presented product, not having a bit of standard does say alot about you No offense Also I'm sure Rock thinks his movies are good, as I said he's far from bright, has his talents (mainly making money and looking like a, well, rock), but shouldn't be the guy to declare standards for the quality of movies and maybe sometimes people just want to switch off their brains once in awhile or if they are having a bad day. Enjoying the lowest level of comedy says absolutely nothing about the person at all, I have defended numerous "bad" comedies on here, you just never know what might connect with you. if shallow and onedimensional connects, idk...

Unsurprisingly, Baywatch was dead in the water. Heard it only made 26 million. This is another thing that critics brought up saying that the movie bombed, and Rock showed his lack of movie/promoting knowledge. Saying the movie made 30% of it's money back is great for 26 million on a 75 million dollar budget and not opened internationally, but fails to realize that doesn't include the extra 40+ million the studio spent to promote the movie, meaning the movie is still nearly 100 million in the hole. So unless the movie kicks complete ass overseas, this movie will tank critically & financially. He took a big risk doing this movie. Jumanjii comes out in December, but he and Kevin Hart promote the shit out of their movies. However, it comes out the same week as Episode 8 so again, that's another huge risk. Rock's been sheltered by the Furious movies and Central Intelligence but he's definitely taken on some questionable roles with these two movies.

Rock has a degree in criminology and physiology. Not bad for a guy who supposedly isn't "bright" eh plenty people have such degrees. Learning everything by hard (or, in other cases, payola) isn't that challenging Shifting goalposts. I see.

It isn't a good movie at all. However, anyone going into Baywatch expecting a cinematic masterpiece is going to be disappointed. It was good for what it's supposed to be - mindless comedy about crime. It misses on many levels, but hits on the basics.

Who the hell asked for a Baywatch movie? Anyways, I got all that I needed to hear about it from Lupa who put it this way "it's not a good movie but it's not godawful either, it's just kinda bad" Not to mention she mentions it doesn't really get stupid enough... to truly capture Baywatch.

The TV show was silly and not to be taken seriously, but fundamentally it was not a comedy, so it's a strange choice for a slapstick movie adaptation.
They could have just called the movie "Beach Patrol!" and it would have been the same. No need to attach the Baywatch name to it. Hell, if they had just created a new Baywatch show with a new group of hot women and a few hunky guys based on the same general tone and style of the original show, it would have probably stood a better chance of working.

Someone mentioned it earlier, Baywatch should have basically been a Baywatch Nights movie.
From what I remembered, that show went to some WEIRD places.

The original Baywatch wasn't exactly grounded either. Aliens, psychics and Ghosts showed up on it all the time. Though Baywatch Nights Season 2 went full x-files with werewolves and demons and other occult stuff showing up in a monster of the week format.

Rock's the most in-demand actor in Hollywood right now, and the guy's always working. A lot of these riskier roles are ones that are quick and easy to film (Baywatch only took a few weeks of his time to film), filler in-between the bigger projects that have become his bread and butter. Personally I think Jumanji wouldn't be a huge risk if it was released at any other time besides against a Star Wars movie, but ultimately that's on the studio.

He went from Die Rocky Die to the highest paid actor and sexiest man on the planet. He's doing well.
Still, when I watch his movies I wonder why the Rock is behaving that way.

Is Baywatch his first "bomb" in awhile? Maybe he's so used to his movies doing well recently that the first time he's had one do not so hot he lashes out.

Hercules under-performed but was still financially successful. 2010's Faster made $35 million on a $24 million budget, which was a limited release and didn't have a whole lot of advertising, so that probably broke even at worst. Similar case for Gridiron Gang in 2006. The only movies in Rock has ever been a lead that didn't even make production budget back were Doom and The Rundown, both of which were in the early-'00s. That's actually pretty impressive.

It was critically successful, and did really well on home video, but only took $80 million in theatres on an $85 million budget.

I'm a huge fan of the Universal monsters and I like how they're doing something different with them. Just hope we get "Black Lagoon" & "Phantom" in it, They're 2 of my faves *Edit* We are getting "creature", So I'll await news of "Phantom"

I saw it last night and honestly It wasn't very good as I found the film to be both boring and unfunny.
Though I really do wish the Rock would stop moaning about the critics as he has been acting like a total twat over the past week.

Even in bad movies Rock was in, his acting was never attacked. Like Be Cool. With Baywatch, is specifically his performance finally receiving criticism? He might not be used to that, like other posters have said.
Similar to Tom Hanks, and Bonfire of the Vanities.

I'd be VERY interested to see what they come up with for it.
