That article is basically just Meltzer's opinion. It's not based in any fact.
What does that even mean? If they got this impossible number then he'd sell? Why even say that? Haha. Like oh man imagine if someone could run 100m in 3 seconds, which they can't, they'd really do well at the Olympics!
Either way I doubt Vince would ever quit THIS BUSINESS. I'll believe it when I see it.

I usually hate on Disney but WWE is way, way below for them.

I would favour Disney buying WWE.

If this was even 10 years ago, I wouldn't have even entertained the idea, however, with Vince in his seventies and with clear aspirations to succeed elsewhere you've got to say it's now or never really.
I think the real question is what's keeping the McMahon's in the wrestling business right now?

*A few days ago...*
Dixie Carter: Mom, dad! Can I have $100,000,000? There's something I want to buy!
Janice: It's not something wrestling related, is it?
Bob: You know we only let you come back home on the grounds you stopped wasting money on that trash.
Dixie: No,no it's not! I just uh...... need new shoes.

I can't see Disney but just imagine if Vince randomly sold the company off and didn't let Stephanie, Triple H, or Shane in on the deal.

I’ve said this once, I’ve said it a billion times and I’ll probably say this a billion times more:
DISNEY. WON’T. EVER. BUY. WWE. THERE. IS. NO. ASSET. VALUE. TO. IT.
Unless you’re happy to see Stone Cold Steve Austin’s gimmick get handed to Goofy for some reason, it will never ever happen.

I know people think it's impossible but I have little doubt in my mind that WWE could fetch over a billion dollars. With the consolidation of media, WWE's millions of hours of programming with most of it already digitized, and already having a delivery method for it, they are easily something primed for major acquisition.
Comcast alone has relied on WWE to keep their channels on top and paid hundreds of millions to do so. Do you really think they'll want to chance losing that to Disney?

he's so obsessed with proving WWE's success wasn't a fluke with all his extracurriculars like WWE Studios, XFL etc

There is really nothing that Disney would want front the WWE... especially getting into a business with so many skeletons in its closet like Pro Wrestling.

Miramax, Marvel, ABC, ESPN, Star Wars are all under that umbrella. They could easily fit WWE in the family. And someone mentioned the Carolina Panthers being up for sale, 100million won't even get you a spot at the negotiating table. Seriously, going by the value Forbes estimated (2billion) and NFL rules, he'd have to have close to 600million just to be in a partnership to purchase it.

Miramax, Marvel, ABC, ESPN, Star Wars are all under that umbrella. They could easily fit WWE in the family. With most of those, especially Marvel, Lucasfilm, The Muppets etc, there are at least things they can use to promote other products, make merchandise and use in theme parks. Muppets on Dancing on Ice etc. The only things WWE genuinely own are footage, gimmicks and names. That’s it. They don’t own likenesses, they don’t own anything with real substance to it. There’s no Iron Man or Hulk to promote in theme parks, just names of things they kinda sorta own. They’re not going to change Space Mountain to Survivor Series or Magic Kingdom to WrestleMania so most of what WWE owns is useless to them. You’re not going to see John Cena costumes in Disneyland because, well, John Cena’s a dude. They may own the name but they don’t own the guy. And WWE films is just that. Films. Sure, they could use the growing film library but again, that’s it. They can brag that they have part ownership of Surfs Up 2 for some reason. Also, as Plat mentioned, one bad PR story about the purchase and the deal goes kaput because all eyes will be on Disney wondering why the heck they brought this company with these skeletons. Shareholders’d hate it really damn quickly.

After this sale, Vince himself has nearly 83% of the voting power and nearly 42% of the common stock. What he sold today was only a little over 4% of WWE's overall common stock.

If that is accurate, that means WWE is valued at over $2 billion. A recent NASDAQ article talking about WWE's great year states that their market cap is approx. 2.5 billion www.nasdaq.com/article/5-consumer-stocks-that-gained-more-than-50-in-2017-cm894231
