Even looking beyond the whole "wow, this is happening far too late to really matter" part of things, it's really annoying when it seems like they're going to do matches at Mania without much real story or purpose. If you're going to do Cena/Taker now, at this stage, then you really need a good reason for it to happen, so that if the actual match they put on isn't all that great then it can at least still carry narrative impact. Honestly, with the overuse of part-timers at WM it really does get hard for them to really build up stories that can shape the in-ring presentation (e.g. what moves the guys choose to do, what shapes their match finish, what facial expressions they choose, etc.) and, as I said in another thread, it kind of ends up feeling like a kid bashing two action figures together to "make them fight" without much other reasoning. See Shane/Undertaker as far as why the f*** are we doing this match again. Shane says he has something on his father, Vince makes him fight the Undertaker and he obliges for some reason Honestly, up until the end of smackdown pre-mania I was still convinced Shane would sub out to Cena or something. See Shane/Undertaker as far as why the f*** are we doing this match again. Shane says he has something on his father, Vince makes him fight the Undertaker and he obliges for some reason And if Shane loses he leaves WWE, which is why after losing he becomes GM of Raw anyway because f*** story cohesion. Well that entire Mania came off as basically being Non-canon.

Yeah, they scrubbed most of that away pretty quickly probably because most of that ‘Mania felt really long and really dang miserable with the amount of faces who unnessisarily lost. But then it came off like the Ellsworth MITB thing. It was a bad decision, yes (an awful decision), but if you’re not going to follow up on it and scrub it away, it makes you wonder why they even booked it that way in the first place if you’re incapable of following it up.

I can get on board with Cena v Taker, as long as they're both away from the world title scene. I'll just skip through it.

Ijust don't understand how you can simultaneously push Roman as the biggest deal going (putting him in the title match) and admit that's he's not that big a deal (do Cena as Taker's last match instead)
If they're married to this Roman thing (which they clearly are) Taker needs to stay retired.
