Paige told to retire by WWE doctors

Here's what Meltzer and Alvarez said about the situation.

Meltzer on what happened: ''Paige has been described medically disqualified from wrestling WWE, due to her neck problems. I don't know what as far as she's going to do now. When she got the operation, I don't remember the exact wording but the doctor who operated on her neck told her not comeback. She only did maybe 7 matches before she got hurt and it was a freak accident.''

Alvarez on the spot that did it: ''This was an accident, was probably going to happen one way or the other. It was going to happen [If doctors told her not to]. I mean yeah, ya hope this doesn't happen but this spot shouldn't have been done. Shouldn't have happened to somebody with a bad neck.''

Meltzer and Alvarez then discuss Paige's scoliosis and how they always happen to gymnasts. Both of them bring up the fact Paige has been wrestling since 12-13. Meltzer theorises that worsened scoliosis and that led to the neck but that is his non-medical opinion.

Meltzer brings Daniel Bryan up about how all the outside doctors cleared him but WWE wouldn't but Paige got told not to by outside doctors but WWE cleared her.

Alvarez suggests commentary for her but Meltzer isn't sure if Paige is right for it. Alvarez argues the companies pro-woman stance right now would suit it but Meltzer argues the best talkers aren't always the best commentators. He suggests coaching or she might ignoring doctors and going to the Indy scene.

Not really. Doctors come to differing, yet reasonable, conclusions all the time.

Not really. Doctors come to differing, yet reasonable, conclusions all the time.

Also, it’s not like she was unaware of what the other doctors said.

She made the choice to get back in the ring.

This is true, Renee for example is far and away the best host/interviewer they have but even she'll tell you she's a terrible commentator.

The neck injuries from bumps are today’s version of the 80s and 90s ODs from coke and pills and steroid heart attacks.

This. There's a world of difference between a doctor recommending you don't continue in a profession, or at least start planning an exit strategy, and a doctor flat out refusing to sign off on you returning to said profession.

It's being seen as something that could have happened with anyone in the ring and not something that was a direct result of Banks' actions. As I noted in my audio over the weekend, the two did the exact same spot the night before in Madison Square Garden.

These are my thoughts on the scenario as well. The spot was done essentially the same way the previous night with Bayley. It could have happened then. It didn't. It happened with Sasha.

The people on the internet that are calling for Sasha to be fired over this are pretty terrible. I'm sure Sasha feels terrible about it already.

Wasn't it Bayley who did the kick spot at MSG?  Sasha did it the next night.

Raw to me came off either like they want to do further examination before committing to anything or they don't want this to hang over the Rumble and want to wait until after it to confirm anything.

I think they're waiting for further testing, too. It wouldn't surprise me if Paige is holding out hope & exploring absolutely all her options before anything is announced either.

Or, just as likely given how she was used on Raw...it seems equally likely the endgame is "Paige will just manage Absolution from here on out, and they don't see the need to make a formal retirement notice when they can just subtly change her to being a manager".

Here's hoping it's that the dirtsheets jumped the gun and she can be ready to go soon. Not saying that will happen, but Raw definitely gives me a LOT of hope.

I don't have an issue believing Johnson or Meltzer, they're almost always on top of things. It's very odd. Hopefully Dave says something tonight.

I think that they’re just going to kind of slowly phase her out once Absolution runs it’s course and not really go into too much detail on it.
