What TV shows' popularity saw them survive through boneheaded decisions that you'd think would have destroyed them right then and there?

I think Walking Dead might be sorta tip-toeing around that area currently.

Game of Thrones went off the rails this last season. But we know the end is near and will give it the benefit of the doubt to see how it ends.

Saturday Night Live.
The show being a cultural icon is what kept it going after the mid 90s, when most of the "bad boys of snl" left.

the actual answer is BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER when they brought in dawn who i liked though
also SPACE 1999 season two, not only when barry morse left and they brought in catherine schell as a shape changing alien (even though she was sexy as hell) ..... but they CHANGED THE THEME TUNE!!!

But yeah, I think everyone has accepted this is the only way the story will ever finish since Martin won't/can't work on the books.

Happy Days.
Arthur Fonzarelli was so over that he literally jumped a ****ing shark at the start of season five, yet show ran for 11 seasons.
I'm not sure there has been a TV character in my lifetime who has reached the height of Fonzie's popularity.

How did The Flintstones do when Gazoo turned up? That was the last season. You be the judge. Then of course we got The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show, the Flintstone Comedy Hour, Fed and Barney Meet the Thing, The Flintstone Kids, WWE meets the Flintstones....yeah you can't kill that franchise off.

Fonzie might have had 2 Saturday morning cartoons, but Urkel had a dance and his own cereal.

Was the Fred and Barney as cops cartoon part of the Comedy Hour? I have vague memories of that.

He was a scientist who made crazy inventions, so it was kind of there for the taking. My parents once bought me an Urkel backpack, so its not like the kid audience wasnt there.

And you had Prostars with Jordan,Jackson and Gretzsky.

I wouldn't be shocked if an Urkel animated series was at least pitched, kind of like how Jurassic Park and Aliens had cartoons that were seriously considered, with Spielberg mulling over the former before axing it, and the latter getting far enough to get a toyline made before they got cold feet, I guess.
