The Cosby Show is still in syndication, and Bill Cosby is a convicted rapist. Roseanne will be back in syndication once the current heat's off Barr. I thought Cosby Show was completely pulled after the guilty verdict. |

If they really want to be meta, have Valerie Harper play their nanny or female relative/mother surrogate. Well thank you for making me have to look up whether or not Valerie Harper was still alive. For some reason I thought she had passed away a couple of years ago. About 5 years back she had a brain tumor and doctors gave her six months or so at the time. Thankfully it ended up not being as bad and she is still here....was on Dancing With the Stars and some other shows. I got an autograph from writing her a couple months back too, actually. |

Yeah, I don't think the shows gonna be gone for good. But it will be a bit before it sees the sun again. Absolutely. Like I said, look at Hogan and how many people want to see him make guest appearances on WWE again. Or worse, the people who pre-Network clamored for WWE to keep Chris Benoit matches around. |

The problem with her joke was. When you're talking about "apes" and "Muslims" within the context of black people. You're throwing way too many swords up in the air, and unless you got some comedy-ninja skills, you're going to end up slicing your hand off.
Someone like Louis CK literally called a deer a "F*** C*** N****" in his act a while back. Yet there was no protests from gay people, women or black people because he set it up and delivered in a context that made sense, and it was obvious he wasn't saying it to be homophobic, sexist or racist.
If Roseannes wasn't intending to be racist, then she just sucks at making jokes.
Whether the show should have been canceled or not? I don't know, I have no desire to watch a network family sitcom, and don't see why other people do. It's not a question of morality or taking a stand against racism. It's a matter of whether the show can be profitable. In which case, it's kind of hard to sell commercials when the star of your show is comparing a black person to an ape.

Horse shit, even a cursory glance at her feed shows a)she's been about this rhetoric for YEARS, and b)there's no ambiguity of what she meant here.

If they do a Conners series, I hope they don't do the obvious thing and make it the Darlene and Jackie show just to prove they were the correct ones, as an apology and a take that to Roseanne. I'll say no more to avoid the big shiny lock, and remind you that I'm not on one side nor the other politically, so it gets grating both ways.

It's incredibly dangerous to conflate mental health issues with racism/hateful attitudes. I would argue underlying issues and the decision to embrace hate is a 'mental illness' of a sort and 'something wrong that needs fixing'. I know some people disagree, that whole "it's more important that you're allowed to hate who you want as long as you don't show it' over suggesting that this is a wrong mindset and shouldn't really be allowed. Uh I hope I'm not getting off track. I used to watch and like the show but i had barely heard of this revival and it's cancelled already?? Probably for the best at this early stage rather than continuing to entangle yourself more and more. But it sucks for the people who lost their jobs. Can't even really put it on a CV it was over so quick. I did see her rendition of the national anthem and i thought that was intentionally funny, but these remarks are....well they're just straight up racist. |
