What was the animation budget, five half pennies?

Oof.
Yeah...yeah, I had to tap after 5 minutes. I just can't get past the animation. It's hard to say why, I mean, I could get through Adventure Time, but this particular style is such an eyesore, and it just can't carry the humor. It looks and moves like a bad Youtube fan parody or something.
But I don't want to be that guy, so I'll try to say something positive. Uh...uhh...well, Erica Lindbeck and Patrick Seitz are both great voice actors, so I'm glad they're still getting work!

Y'know what, I have absolutely no attachment to Thundercats, let's see what I as someone who could probably name like two characters thinks...
Okay, four minutes in this just feels like I've discovered what it'd be like if OK KO was nowhere near as good, funny I guess given both of them have a Cassie Cage voice in the main cast. To be fair I don't really think it's typically fair to judge much of anything off its first episode - can think of plenty of pilots I thought were terrible for shows that I'd say are (or were at a point in time) really good - but at least as presented... It's nowhere near the worst thing I've ever seen but it's not good. Not even really sure it'd appeal to kids either since while it's trying to be really zany and fast-paced it actually drags quite a lot from the word go.

Saw a few clips of this... nothing seems really original at all or that it needed to be thundercats to do
In action the style seems halfway between the Adventure time spawns and rick and Morty complete with w mouths.
The two jokes I saw were literally the same this guy is our leader but he's a loud total moron. That has been done to death...
I was a fan of thundercats and I'm fine with people making a comedy of it (I mean it's a show that was mostly designed to sell toys it's not really holy ground or anything).

I thought the "it's a toy commercial" excuse died out when Toon Zone stopped being relevant. It has always been a weak argument against 80s cartoons. There actually was effort to put into them, everything always had a sound mythology that it's fans do take seriously.

The "toy commercial" argument really only applied to the Hasbro shows, since they were cartoons based on toy lines rather than cartoons that later had toy lines. The hallmark of those shows was for characters to show up long enough to introduce themselves, show off their special power, then fade into the background until their toy was discontinued and they disappeared from the show altogether. Thundercats definitely fell into the cartoon first, toys second category. There's a pretty deep lore and the writing and production value was pretty consistent in comparison to Hasbro's efforts.

But yes, the original thundercats cartoon was designed to be toyetic. There was mythology and everything else behind it... with the idea of people would want to buy the merch for it. A lot of the 80's shows were like that... hell even 90's shows like TMNT was. My point was I'm not against reinvention of the show, even for a comedic spin on it. My problem is ... I don't find it really all that funny or original.

So from the sounds of things this didn't really improve any from that trailer they showed off a couple of years ago.
Oh well at least I can still turn to some worthwhile Cartoon Network shows like Infinity Train, Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart and DC Super Hero Girls (Lauren Faust version).

I just feel "its a toy commercial" is a weak and cynical argument that fuels the ongoing cringe culture....the shows had heart to them. Sure some stories were campy, some defied logic, but there was always a gem more so than usual, and like I said, when they had to build up a mythology, they did it quite well.
Were they made to sell toys? Yes, but that doesn't define them, they transcended that purpose in the hearts and minds of those that watched them, and every remake/reboot builds on the mythologies they put together for them so that the truth behind their creation remains camouflaged.

I finally watched some of this over the weekend. It reminded me of something I might have seen on Newgrounds 15 years ago, only not as funny.

I only learned of this over the weekend because apparently there's some outrage about a fleeting image from that last scene there: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Panthro's skeletal remains - apparently people are QUITE upset that it was (perceived?) as a slight against the actor who originally voiced Panthro - Earl Hyman, aka Cosby's dad from The Cosby Show - who died in 2017. Also during that outrage I read that some of the folks associated with this new Tcats show have already placed it in the "previous" sections of their resumes, which could maybe mean the show's done after 1 season...?

Yeah, I saw this and it seems they already went full TTG with it (though TTG have dialed WAAAY back on the anyone who wants the old show is stupid).
Also the no one cares about the 2011 version is also wrong because it ended because CN's f***ing with it not due to lack of interest... it was still getting good ratings despite CN moving it to random times with little advertising.
But like I said... I've seen episodes and ... yeah... I still don't find it funny which is the biggest issue.

Roar really demonstrates just how important a good first impression is. Like Rise of TMNT it never felt like it managed to shake off that initial dubious reputation (regardless of later quality) while COVID's impact on production combined with CN's usual nonsense doomed it.
While I'll lament the 2011 reboot's cancellation far more than this one, I do hope the staff can get onto other projects (hopefully ones that learn not do repeat Roar's mistakes).

Considering how they paid 'homage' to Panthro in the TTG crossover I hope they never land work again. f*** 'em.

Maybe next time they decide to reboot ThunderCats, they'll get someone who actually likes the franchise. Instead of someone who openly hated it because his brothers liked it.
