Makes me wonder if we ever got a Transformers movie closer to what the fandom wants what the general audience's reaction would be. "Where's my two hours of Shia and Megan Fox?" I'd say bumblebee was a step towards that, they used the 80's designs for most transformers and had a decent balance between humans and transformers. sure there is still the influence of the bay movies to it.

Uh, yeah. Breathtaking film. GORGEOUS visuals. Thought the scale between the human plot and Titans was well balanced, even if some of the human plots had me slightly confused. Character motivations were a bit dodgy and the "twist" early on was odd and the explanation didn't really hit home for me.
BUT, this film was a fan's dream. So many easter eggs and touches from the older films were aplenty. Hell, I was thrown off at how faithful it was to the source material while adding to the lore. I'm so used to Hollywood adapting a form of media and throwing out what made the source memorable in the first place. The origins made sense and added to the greater world they built upon.
The fights themselves were aw inspiring and presented a sense of scale unseen in the Toho films tbh. A lot of wide shots to show the full force of destruction caused but my favorite were the street level shots. Seeing how humans compare to the majesty of the titans made for an amazing experience.
The titans themselves had, for the most part, personalities of their own that was conveyed wonderfully through body language, expressions, and actions. Hell, the individual heads of the big bad itself had almost separate personalities of their own.
Overall a strong film that was lead by a wonderful performance from Ken Watanabe and the actions of the King of the Monsters. It built it's own lore while it celebrated what came before it. The sense of scale is captured beautifully and the visual effects were top notch. Oh, and let's not forget the wonderful score throughout as well. When I got home, not 30 minutes ago, I had to immediately look on Spotify and listen to a piece from the start of the third act. Highly recommend seeing it in theaters and in an Imax or Dolby setting if possible.

Here's my review of the film. I did enjoy it massively and found the overall visuals to be absolutely astounding. Still felt they focused way too much on the human element rather than the monsters duking it out in cities and landscapes. The emergence of Mothra was beautiful and emotional. The way she was used was absolutely perfect. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Granted she does die. Yet I hope there's a sequel where they find another Mothra coccoon(spelling?). Her final form along with the music associated with her was truly divine.

I still stand by my belief that the best Godzilla film is Godzilla 1985.

I still stand by my belief that the best Godzilla film is Godzilla 1985. Personal favorites for me: Gojira (original), vs Destroyah, 2000, Final Wars, and Monster Zero. Further down the road I'll have some hindsight opinions to see where this and the 2014 one fall for me.

So, I saw it.
Overall I liked the film, but just barely, because there’s a lot of pros and cons to the film and cons do almost outweigh the pros.
The pros are, well, ok, basically anything directly involving the Kaiju. They did them justice. However, literally anything not the Kaiju I disliked in this film. The writing(like, all of it, from the character motivations to character actions, character dialogue, just overall narrative, etc.) is just, just terrible.
And unfortunately the fight scenes just aren’t plentiful enough or good enough to entirely erase the poor quality of the writing.
The action scenes themselves, while cool, weren’t really that impressive to me either. Especially because this is a year that has seen things like the Western release of Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Alita: Battle Angel, and John Wick 3. All three of those films have phenomenal action scenes throughout(or, well in Broly’s case it is almost entirely one big action scene), so it kinda sucks to see a film come along with good, but not great, fight scenes spread out by considerable gulfs of mediocre at best writing.
It still manages to find itself in my Top 10 films of the year for now, but only just by the skin of its teeth as it is sitting in at #9 above only Captain Marvel(which was merely enjoyable but rather generic).

Whether it means she reincarnated, as per usual, or it is her son, remains to be seen. Honestly I hope it is her son because given some of the stuff they give Godzilla in this film it is clear they are aware these guys have evolving powersets, and that would mean her son would hopefully have his badass upgrades, which he’ll need, because, while they did put respect on Mothra’s beauty, damn they made her physically fragile(or well, more fragile that usual).

Going to see it tonight in IMAX. Should I assume there’s a post-credit scene?

I'll probably check it out just because it's clearly a "see this on the big screen" type of movie, but it's funny to me right now how the only reviews I've seen/read have either been head over heels for the movie (not surprisingly from long-time Godzilla fans) or absolutely despised it.
I guess it makes sense; kaiju films are kind of tough to categorize and pick apart, they're a very unique entity in popular cinema, so gauging what works or doesn't work about them will be a REALLY individualized affair.

from the complaints from critics about too much time was spent on the monsters, I figured they would've been in it a hell of a lot more than they actually are {Spoiler}and I think it's time for Godzilla to retire and make way for some new blood. i mean the dude had to juice to beat Ghidorah. if you can't win clean without the use of performance enhancing nukes, you don't deserve the King of the Monsters championship. he's had a good, long reign, but now it's time to hang it up and let a younger talent have a run on top

What a wonderful bit of serendipity that King of the Monsters comes out the weekend before the last episode of HBO's Chernobyl.

The title will be held in abeyance until the KotM ladder match at Kaijumania. The participants will include: King Ghidora, Rodan, Mothra, Gamera, Destoroyah, and King Kong. The ultimate thrill ride! Does Big Fella make an appearance in this movie? {Spoiler}Well....yes and no. They throw out several visual callbacks to Kong. They show multiple cave paintings/carvings of him and brief clips of video(I’m just gonna assume archival footage taken during Skull Island). He doesn’t appear in the flesh though.

Just saw it at the cinema. Absolutely loved it. Godzilla is great, Ghidorah is amazing, Mothra is beautiful and Rodan is amusing. The humans are fine and basically used to jump from each monster scene with some mild family drama along with a nice little twist near the start. But this film is about the monsters and boy does it deliver. Some of the visuals, especially in Mexico are works of art. The fights be it with military or each other are great and each has there own personality. 10/10 for me. {Spoiler}Loved that so many other classic kaijui got to appear, the nods to Kong, Caterpillar Mothra + the callbacks to the twins in the Mothra films, the no-oxygen bomb and King Ghidorah looking like the Devil incarnate. Also really enjoyed Godzilla going full nuclear at the end to win. Amazing!

okay, "Kong: Skull Island" had Jason Mitchell (Eazy E) and Corey Hawkins (Dr. Dre), and "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" has O'Shea Jackson Jr (Ice Cube). so is "Godzilla vs. Kong" going to complete the "Straight Outta Compton" set by having Aldis Hodge (MC Ren) and Neil Brown Jr. (DJ Yella)?
