This year, Impact Wrestling has been consistently better than Raw.

The difference is that Schiavone still went out there and tried to do his job as best he can given the constraints placed on him, the things he was expected to parrot, with Heenan you could tell he didn't give a crap about doing a good job. Nobody expects performers, either commentators or wrestlers, to be on fire every night, but if you go start coasting for years, not giving even half a damn then you deserve scorn. It's not the fan's fault you're unhappy, they don't deserve to be intentionally shortchanged because of it. To me at least, he seemed pretty engaged during the hot period with the NWO and Goldberg. I've been watching a lot of WCW from that era, and he's been talkative and putting things over. Yeah I think Heenan even half-assing it was simply too good (and too willing to lean in) to not be pretty great even when he doesn't give a f***.

Heel Lashley is just as bland and boring as face Lashley

The only thing keeping the WWE's independent contractor lie alive is the insanely short statute of limitations in Connecticut. Talent generally hope that the WWE will rehire them and don't want to burn that bridge after their release, and by the time they realise it's a pipe dream, time is up.
Weird as it is, I find it harder to care about Impact or the WWE when they're doing okay, as they are now. I wanted both to be better over the years, and now they are, I'm less motivated to discuss them as it feels like searching for things to moan about.

When it's bad, there's the huge frustration factor because you know it could be better. When it's great, obviously you watch. When it's solid, consistent, decent, you know you'll get a good show but there's nothing big to react to so you get complacent and zone out a tad.

The Undertaker’s mid ‘90s purple attire is still my favorite look of his.
Some people think it looks tacky, but I personally love it.

DX (post Shawn Michaels) was extremely overrated, and has aged badly. They drove the suck it joke way into the ground, and trips did not have the charisma to carry the group (the way Michaels did).

This is less a sacrilegious opinion and more a confession but:
I thought the WCW version of Warrior was the coolest thing I'd ever seen when I was a kid. I even dressed like him for Halloween that year, the jacket and everything.

Rick Rude was awesome but despite all his charisma, was not a main eventer. His position in the late 80s was perfect for him. In his WCW run he seemed so out of place against Sting, Flair et al.
This leads in to another of mine. The proverbial 'X Factor' is the most important part of a main eventer. You can have all the apparent tools, but without it, you just don't fit on top.
Rude, Hennig, Kane, Jericho, Owen Hart. All tremendous, all way better than say, Sid or Luger but lacked the X factor the other 2 had.

On the other hand, not everybody NEEDED to main event back when there were writers/bookers who knew how to keep the midcard relevant. In today's era of "You're on top, or you're nothing", anybody who doesn't climb the mountain is known to be someone the company doesn't care all that much about.

It also hurts guys like Roman who I absolutely believe has the x factor but has been booked in such a way it's killed off his appeal, at least for now.

The best Raw theme is Across The Nation and the best Smackdown theme is Let It Roll.

The best Raw theme is Across The Nation and the best Smackdown theme is Let It Roll. Agree about "Across the Nation", but I think I like "Black and Blue" best for Smackdown themes. "I Want it All" can go die in a fire.

I'm actually the complete opposite way that Stryker is, in that I don't think the "X Factor" is a real thing and "It" is an excuse promoters use to make excuses for talented guys they haven't used probably.
"He just doesn't seem like a star" usually means you didn't promote him like a star. It's wrestlings ultimate self fulfilling prophecy. There are total, untalented goons who they pushed hard for YEARS and now people have fooled themselves into thinking they were great.

If a wrestler can entertain fans in a variety of ways and can stir different emotions in people, that’s charisma. Or “it”. There are exceptions and different situations, but it’s easy to tell someone like Ric Flair had charisma, and Tom Zenk didn’t. It’s not quite a vague concept.
