What are stories/shows etc that you think lasted past an acceptable ending
Bleach should have ended after Aizen was defeated by Ichigo and he lost his powers. It would have been an acceptable enough ending especially considering Aizen was seemingly always built up as the big obstacle of the whole story since he damn near orchestrated all the bad events

The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King (the movie). It's like 30 minutes too long.

seconded on Bleach. should have ended with the defeat of Aizen. having to pull out another villain who was even more comically overpowered just felt forced.
I'd also argue Dragonball Z really should have ended with the Cell Games.
"A Dance with Dragons" was when I lost patience with A Song of Ice and Fire. he already had problems keeping all the subplots straight and then added even more subplots that we know aren't going anywhere just to pad out the length of the series and once again leave him with a big mess he doesn't know what to do with. less really would have been more.

I think the Metal Gear series suffered from the Big Boss story elements and other plot factors suffering from overexposure. The character became less interesting and the attempts to connect the various players (Otacon's father working with Snake's father) ending up shrinking the universe a bit too much. His story ending at either the end of Snake Eater or even Peace Walker could have still worked, but by the end of Phantom Pain so many of the character and story bits feel either unnecessary or anti-climatic. Other than a few interesting tidbits about Zero and Kaz one could have skipped V entirely and not really missed much; with the saga actually being a bit better in some respects without it.

The Da Vinci code was probably about 35 minutes too long

I was just thinking the other day that the Disney movie "John Carter" would have been better received if it had been just a bit shorter... if they trimmed about 20 minutes out.

Sabrina should've ended after the Harvey cliffhanger at Season 4. The college years were awful.

Supernatural. You can only do so many variations of "Escalating threat comes out of a new pit of hell, and a new, darker family secret threatens to tear the brothers apart", before you're just copying yourself.

Well I haven't watched in a few seasons but try to keep up with the seasons as far as reading what it's about and in fairness I heard they found their footing again and had some good seasons
However, in saying that when you "kill" off God, Death, and Lucifer how the hell is the world still functioning and they are an alternative version who's the big bad now or some shit like that

seconded on Bleach. should have ended with the defeat of Aizen. having to pull out another villain who was even more comically overpowered just felt forced. And the funny thing is the story still got cut short by a few weeks and people were mad
He had a few years to put that arch together probably to finish up story lines and give us new things and an extended fight scene wasn't going make it better

The Office US version. Season 3 finale, Jim & Pam's wedding and Michael leaving were all good stopping points.

Burn Notice. The show was originally about a burnt spy and his friends helping average people with his spy-skills while investigating the conspiracy into who burnt him and why. This was about 95% resolved by the end of season five. They had to stretch things out about as thin as you can possibly stretch them to keep this premise going through season six (and even that required a lot of filler). Then they had season seven. They really should've called it quits with season five.

The Office US version. Season 3 finale, Jim & Pam's wedding and Michael leaving were all good stopping points. They still did some interesting stuff, but in the whole I agree. The Office without Michael is like The Simpsons without Homer.
