Kathy Lee and Hoda...no crossover appeal there at all. The Chrisleys as well as I'm pretty sure the only people who know who they are are fans of WWE and that's only because of how much they run those commercials during RAW. The segment that was so bad they literally just put Adam Rose's music on loop as loud as possible to drown out the boos, and it had nothing to do with anything else that happened on that show. Also, you now all remember Adam Rose was a thing. Another one has to be MacGruber. Aka the answer to "How can we fill a 3 hour wrestling show when all our wrestlers are stuck in Europe, but not actually put any effort in?" Blowing up R-Truth was wonderful.

This isn't a odd celebrity but WWE having Michael Clarke Duncan who was just months after the biggest role of his career in The Green Mile sitting front row at Wrestlemania 2000 clearly super into the show and WWE just decided to not get him involved in the PPV at all. Do we really need actors to get involved with the shows? Can't they just be there as fans and enjoy the show and WWE gets the benefit of showing them on camera enjoying themselves? IMO showing the celebs as fans generally does more good than having wrestlers kiss up to celebrities.

I believe Mary Tyler Moore had a home in Canada in the early 1990s. Bruce Prichard told a good story where she asked Bobby Heenan backstage if she could get the Barbarian's entrance gear though Bruce didn't know why. Mary was an anti-fur activist so she probably wanted to trash the Barbarian's ring gear. Which is weird because Barbarian wasn't wearing the antlers and the fur yet.

Which is weird because Barbarian wasn't wearing the antlers and the fur yet. True but he did have the Powers of Pain gear which IIRC had some fur over top each of the two black leather straps. He also had a large neck piece with bones dangling before the longer half a fur coat he had. I don't think he had that one very long though a few pictures exist with him wearing it.

I can picture some British centric celebrities being odd for the US audience (ie Ricky Hatton and Jose Mourinho). Mourinho's is especially awkward as they used him to get a cheap pop without realising there's more then one football club in London. Wayne Rooney was in the crowd for a Manchester Raw I went to a couple of years ago, and they had him play out an angle with Wade Barrett. Barrett is heeling it up and Rooney has a massive grin on his face while Barrett is insulting Manchester United.

WCW concluding Gary Spivey was a celebrity was baffling enough, but his use to remotivate Paul Orndorff to be Mr Wonderful again was even more confusing. Orndorff's acting in those skits is horrific, but also unintentionally hilarious.

What Robert Wuhl showing up on Nitro as Arli$$? Also, why couldn't they just address him by his real name and state that he just played that particular character, instead of him just appearing AS the character?

Leslie Nielsen and George Kennedy in character as their Naked Gun counterparts, though they're never actually named, trying to locate the missing Undertaker. www.dailymotion.com/video/xjrijp

Jason Hervey. I've received counter arguments to this before but his use still baffles me. Was he already buddies/business partners with Eric Bischoff by then? That'd explain it, if so. Makes me surprised Freddie Prinze Jr. was used so sparingly when he worked for WWE for a few years time. Wasn’t he dating Missy Hyatt back in 91 or so? And that’s how he got introduced to Bischoff?

That does kinda make sense from a timeline perspective.

I'd say Macaulay Culkin both for how random it was and for being way past the point of his celebrity peak.
Don't get me wrong though, that's also one of my favourites.

Andy Warhol showing up in the middle of a Hogan promo. I've heard that the WWF had kind of a fandom among the "artsy" types (even if it was more of an ironic type of appeal), and Warhol definitely fits into that crowd. Reportedly he wanted to paint a portrait of Hogan, but passed away before he got the chance.

Nielsen and Kennedy were about the level of celebrity that the WWF could have hoped for considering this was probably their lowest point as a business. And, well, the timing was pretty unfortunate, considering what was just starting with the third Naked Gun co-star at this point.
