I feel for Woodgate. He was told to overhaul the entire philosophy of the club from a dour defensive style to an attractive attacking style. Had to sell players to balance the budget, wasn't given funds to strengthen the squad and was given an inexperienced coaching team. He was put in a horrible position by the club. So we've had Pulis, now we have Warnock, all we need next is Allardyce and we've completed the full set of the football dinosaur holy trinity Congrats to Liverpool btw. Been an absolute joy to watch for a long time. I'm so happy for Klopp. The nicest man in football!

From an outsider's perspective, it looked an impossible job for even an experienced coach. It's doable if the academy is producing enough good young talent to compensate for the loss of higher-paid players, freeing up funds for the one or two signings needed to bring top quality into the team, but from what I've seen Boro haven't exactly hit a rich vein of young talent in recent years. And yeah, I did roll my eyes at the appointment of Warnock. While he does have a great promotion record at that level, he's neither an inspiring choice, nor a long-term choice, given his advanced age.

I’ll never be that entitled in saying winning the Champions League is a disappointment but the League is the one we all wanted more.
I know it’s fairly entitled to say it’s been “thirty years of hurt” as there are several clubs who would kill to have had Liverpool’s trophy haul from the last thirty seasons but rival fans knew exactly what the League means to Liverpool and have taken great joy in reminding us that the League title had eluded us. I see some fans (not here) are trying to discredit the season and making comments about how the Liverpool fans won’t shut up about it. Well, if you tease someone for a long time about their lack of something for decades and then they finally get their hands on it, you can’t complain when they do.
For years I heard Liverpool fans (including myself) winding up Man Utd fans and saying “come back when you’ve won it 19 times”. I couldn’t complain when they did just that and came back to Liverpool and said “ we’re back”, what were we expecting them to do? Keep quiet about it?

Yeah, the youth production drying up is probably the most alarming thing, especially when you're cutting first team costs. We're now down to about 2 or 3 good prospects at the most, whereas before it was more like a conveyor belt of production. And with many first teamers out of contract at the end of the season, it feels like if we manage to stay up it's just delaying the inevitable relegation next season.

It's amazing to think that even after all of Man Utd's success under Ferguson, all it takes is just one more Liverpool title win and it's all equal again.

This weekend might go from bad to worse for United. A few minutes left to score in extra time against Norwich in the FA Cup to avoid penalties against one of the greatest penalty keeprers in the world

Man Utd into the semi finals
3 more quarter finals today
Sheffield United v Arsenal Leicester v Chelsea Newcastle v Man City
You think Man City would get the better of Newcastle but Newcastle did beat Man City at home in the league a couple of years ago.
Leicester v Chelsea should be good. The big game experience clearly goes to Chelsea so I think they might just do enough.
Not optimistic about Arsenal but a win in midweek will help. Don’t think Sheffield United have won a game since the restart so hopefully we take advantage. An FA Cup win this season would be good after the season we’ve had but still a lot of strong teams left.

Ings express rolls on. I imagine the 3 Watford players who got dropped because going to a party was more important than health will be having a quiet chat with Mr Pearson and Mr Deeney.

The semi finalists in this year’s F.A. Cup are the last 4 teams to win the cup.
So the biggest upset will be Arsenal, who have won more F.A. Cups than any other team, winning the F.A. Cup again. No way Arsenal are beating this Man City team.

I’m a bit of a stuck record over this but after everything he went through with injuries I’m so happy for Danny Ings. I’d love to see him get the Golden Boot and he’s unfortunate that Euro 2020 has been postponed as he should have been in the England side. He also genuinely seems like one of football’s good guys.

On the one hand, he'd probably only have gotten into the squad if Rashford and Kane hadn't recovered from their injuries in time, but on the other hand I think the postponement is likely to help him as it gives him the chance to kick on next season and claim a spot on form alone.

I think if Rashford and Kane had been fit he still would make the squad no problem. Probably those three (and maybe Abraham on the verge) as the out and out strikers.

It's definitely be between Ings and Abraham for the last spot, with Kane, Rashford, Sancho, and Sterling having the other four spots well and truly sewn up. I'd still expect Abraham to get the nod, since Southgate seems to like him and has preferred an out-of-form Calum Wilson as well for some unfathomable reason. Its funny, 25 years on and we're talking about another talented Southampton forward who seemingly can't sniff the England squad regardless of how well he performs for his club.

Northampton thrash Exeter 4 nil to win the League 2 play off and promotion to League 1.
Not bad for a team that lost 2 nil at home in the first leg of the semi final against Cheltenham.
