Basically in a "lol get it, like that thing you heard about" sort of way that's at least supposed to be funny.
Like the time WWE had some blonde woman chasing a fake tiger with a golf club in late 2009.
Or when TNA did this after the Jay-Z/Solange elevator incident:

I thought it was stupid and in bad taste that WWE used footage from the OJ Simpson chase during Wrestlemania 12.

Prichard said on his podcast they tossed around the idea of OJ vs. Fred Goldman (I didn’t mean Ron. He’s dead). Prichard could be ribbing but I gotta go with his word.

Remember when Raw had that woman chasing a tiger mascot around with a golf club, and they kept going back to it all night despite literally the whole arena booing the crap out of it?

I remember when WWE on air tried to get Michael Sam on to an episode of Raw. If I remember correctly they even closed the show with Cole basically saying "come on to our show Sam we give you a fair chance."

TNA using Pacman Jones count? Given they were pretty obviously trying to cash in on his notoriety for legal shit, not just "hey we got a football player".

Peaking with him causing a red distraction by making it rain, and Mike Tenay (presumably fed this line) talking about Hebner picking the bills up like a stripper in a nightclub.

TNA inviting Rod Blagojevich to join the Main Event Mafia is still the strangest clout chasing scheme I've ever seen a wrestling company try

Wasn't an early Brian Kendrick appearance in the WWE a nod to a Blink 182 video? As in, Kendrick streaked the show?

Nah, that’s just Tenay. He lives in Vegas and is one of the greatest vapor wave artists out there.

The Shelton / Trish / Vince segment in late 2004 after a similar segment on Monday Night Football or something like that? It was a big talking point at the time and they thought they should parody it. Trish in a towel was great, other than that it was lame and avoidable.

I don’t think it ever aired, but I swear I remember reading that Al Snow had come out on a TNA show with some sort of ultra-patriot gimmick and claimed he was going to build a wall around TNA.

The streaking was because Sean O'Haire with his devil's advocate gimmick encouraged him to do so. This was before they scrapped it because I guess they realized it was very difficult to think of ways to really translate any of it in the ring, so he became a more generic villain allied with Piper.
