Looking at this thread...one stunning thing is, this is ONE topic where there's very few WCW examples.
That said...Buff (or was it Steiner) dressing up like Mark McGuire and saying he needed steroids to break the home run record?
Going back to ECW...a rare DQ finish came in 1997 in a Shane Douglas vs. Terry Funk match...where Francine bit Funk's ear leading to the ending. I think there was even a spiel from Tod Gordon, who was still figurehead commissioner, about how not even ECW could encourage incidents like the Tyson-Holyfield outcome.

Not totally sure if it counts, but WCW bringing in Chucky to blow Rick Steiner away during a promo was pretty awful. As was Robocop in WCW. I think WCW wouldn't so much as make references to real life things, they'd just bring the person into the company like Rodman and Malone. Hogan announcing he was running for president after Jesse Ventura became governor is close. I'd like to just say this regarding Stephanie and her 9/11 comment. She didn't even say what she is being accused of saying. She made an analogy saying that people came after her family and tried to tear them apart, but it only made them come together and become stronger. She said people tried to destroy the US and tear the country apart, but she's seeing them instead come out of it stronger.

And to those who say "no one died" in the steroid trial...well, fear doesn't always have to involve fatalities to affect us.

Yeah. And to those who say "no one died" in the steroid trial...well, fear doesn't always have to involve fatalities to affect us. No-one died, except all the people who died young as a result of the damage done to their bodies working the WWF schedule, painkiller abuse and injecting their bodies with god knows what to maintain the superstar physique that Vince demanded in order to give guys any sort of push.

I don't know if I'd call it the worst or the lamest but does anyone remember when Rick Steiner argued with Chucky during a match to plug Bride of Chucky? It was friggen surreal.

Better not have, considering "Enema of the State" was about 5 years old by that point. I wanna say Kendrick was referencing a commercial that aired around that time. Someone wearing a scarf streaked a soccer game. Obviously, this was a reference to Tiger Woods. But what the hell was this in the context of Raw? Oh come on, it's WWE. You know full well the answer to this was "There was absolutely no context or point, and it went literally nowhere" Better not have, considering "Enema of the State" was about 5 years old by that point. What is trendy currently?" so they just wanted to reference something current

BTW, just watch any episode of RAW from 93 up through 1996 and the announcers make numerous references to then-recent news stories.
