Lana cutting a pro Putin promo before each Rusev match. Real life events were making this sail close to the wind, she just dropped it one day, always thought the pay off would be a Putin impersonator berating a tearful Lana after Rusev's loss at WM31 only to walk into an AA. Probably for the best it got quietly dropped. The whole Russian nationalist angle was silly as not only is Rusev Bulgarian he has an effing Bulgarian flag tattooed on his arm! Plus Lana said Americans blamed Russia for the Flight MH370 disappearance "recent current events" at Battleground 2014.

Wasn't an early Brian Kendrick appearance in the WWE a nod to a Blink 182 video? As in, Kendrick streaked the show? Better not have, considering "Enema of the State" was about 5 years old by that point. I wanna say Kendrick was referencing a commercial that aired around that time. Someone wearing a scarf streaked a soccer game. Remember when Raw had that woman chasing a tiger mascot around with a golf club, and they kept going back to it all night despite literally the whole arena booing the crap out of it? Obviously, this was a reference to Tiger Woods. But what the hell was this in the context of Raw?

Oh yeas, the time WWF put the world title on Iraqi Sympathizer Sgt. Slaughter so they can have a good excuse to move Wrestlemania VII from the LA Coliseum to the Sports Arena to avoid having to suffer the humiliation of having to host Wrestlemania in an mostly empty coliseum and so they can use the excuse of "We Moved Wrestlemania due to "Security Concerns""

That one time in '97 when they tried to tie in Ellen DeGeneres coming out on her sitcom with a Goldust interview about how he's actually a married straight guy who has issues with his father.

apologies if it got said
but wasn't the DX State of the Union address in early 98 a reference to a scandal going on around that time with the POTUS

Stephanie McMahon comparing her dad's steroids trial to 9/11. Never bothered me. She compared it to what had been the most she'd been afraid in her life prior. She was not acting like it was the worst thing the country had faced prior or something like that. I know if congress had a hardon to put my dad in prison, I'd be pretty f***ing terrified. 2 people I knew & had worked with died on 9/11 (on the 1st plane), and if Stephanie McMahon ever reacted to her dad's trial the way I heard those peoples' friends react that day in the office when they got the news, then I'll admit the 9/11 comparison is absolutey fair. ......but I don't think she did. I just don't. ....Jesus, I can still hear those screams....

apologies if it got said but wasn't the DX State of the Union address in early 98 a reference to a scandal going on around that time with the POTUS They absolutely made references to it, with mentions of the Oral Office and Swallow the Leader. But the skit as a whole was more WWE poking fun at a letter it received from USA Network regarding the show’s content than it was based on real-world events. That only came near the end.

That Bill Clinton impersonator on a WWF PPV. Ha hah, politics. To their credit he looked the part. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Jennifer Flowers appear at Wrestlemania to interview The Rock?

TNA inviting Rod Blagojevich to join the Main Event Mafia is still the strangest clout chasing scheme I've ever seen a wrestling company try While we're on that one, who the hell was Johnny Fairplay? I mean I know he was on Survivor or something but that doesn't actually answer my question.

You know full well the answer to this was "There was absolutely no context or point, and it went literally nowhere"

Johnny Fairplay was a contestant on Survivor: Pearl Islands. During the show he became one of the most infamous villains in Reality TV history when he faked his Grandmother's death to gain leverage during the endgame.
To be fair though Fairplay was a big wrestling fan and IIRC worked as a heel commentator for a local fed.
