I love how much Kris is committing to the space alien character.
Also like that she didn't talk in her interview with Tony. Builds up a bit more mystery around her.

Unfortunately, the match has been postponed due to prior commitments for Statlander. Riho will now face Nyla Rose, Britt Baker (who’s a dentist) and Hikaru Shida for the AEW Women’s title next week, with Statlander getting her shot a week later.

What an indefensibly bush-league look for this promotion.

Can AEW keep Baker far away from the title until she improves?
This is ridiculous.

What an indefensibly bush-league look for this promotion. Yes, no other wrestling promo has ever had to delay a match because of outside reasons. How amateur. Shit happens, that's why wrestling shows usually have the disclaimer of "card subject to change".

Shit happens, that's why wrestling shows usually have the disclaimer of "card subject to change". Outside reasons like a January 1st show that Statlander was announced for on December 12 and then made #1 contender for a match to take place on 1/1 after that? Yeah, that seems pretty damn amateur to me. Leaning on "card subject to change" is carny bullshit that AEW should probably be above and often acts like it is. That should be reserved for unexpected injuries or true acts of God like the typhoon keeping Moxley out of Japan, not double-booking a title contender and seemingly being lower on the priority chain than Joey Ryan's indy show. Oh, and check out AEW's graphic for the 4-way. "Nylya Rose" is participating. Yippee.

They couldve just said that Kris was unavailable due to Brandi stabbing her eye with her shoe(I know it would make Brandi look strong thus pissing off people but wouldve been a better excuse).

I know I just decried "carny bullshit" two posts ago, but seriously, having a double in Statlander's outfit laying on the locker room floor with her back to the camera and Awesome Kong standing over her would be preferable to, "Our #1 contender has a prior commitment that takes priority over a title shot on a nationally televised wrestling program and can't make it."

Yeah, this is disappointing. I had liked the dynamic where Statlander had leapfrogged over all of the people who are now getting the shot before her, and it was a clearly preventable mistake.

And in kayfabe-land it competely screws Riho over. She's prepping for Statlander, then suddenly that rug gets pulled out from under her and she's "upgraded" into being put into a match with 3 other women where she can lose her title without being pinned? This honestly gets more ridiculous the more I think about it.

I am admittedly disappointed. This is obviously a huge match in terms of people in it, but here I am also irritated that they're taking the four most heavily pushed women in the division and 3 of them have to start the year off with a loss.

Sad fact is that the other women have even less credibility or arent good at all.

How did this even happen? They had weeks to work out the cards. Why didn't they just work the Brandi attack into it as to why she couldn't fight this week that she wasn't medically cleared? This is all very confusing. I like AEW being flexible with wrestlers and letting them work other shows, but this is a nationally televised championship match, Joey Ryan should be the one rescheduling for his show, not AEW. Though if Statlander was booked for his show first, then I don't know how they went WEEKS without finding out. I just... don't get how the wires got so crossed here.
The four way should be fun and cover up Baker and Nyla's current shortcomings in the ring, moreso Baker, but now it's quite obvious Riho is gonna retain barring some shock booking.

Sad fact is that the other women have even less credibility or arent good at all. Things have been improving on that front, thankfully, but yeah, Emi Sakura's out for the foreseeable future but has said she wants to work with AEW again later on. Big Swole, Shanna, or Bea would have probably been good, too, but they don't have enough wins yet to justify being in a match like this. Allie just isn't really very good at all, and Brandi's obviously also limited. I guess Kong would have fit, but given I suspect she's going to be either costing Kris or attacking her after her title match, they probably don't want to tip their hand on that yet.

Ok but how did you guys not know about this commitment before booking and advertising the match for January 1st? Like before she signed? That's weeks ago at the very least. Someone screwed up here, and it really sounds like Statlander didn't tell them she was booked on the 1st. Why won't you play into Brandi stabbing her damn eye out as a way to keep her off TV for the week instead of basically admitting ya'll screwed up really bad in communication? It's a classy move on their behalf, but it's also a move that could have been avoided, this wasn't an injury or some last minute thing this was a huge oversight that gives more fuel to the people who already want to shit on them. Growing pains are gonna happen, but this stuff can't happen again.

SoCal Uncensored (the website, not the AEW Tag Team Champions) said sources within Bar Wrestling told them they would have allowed Statlander to appear for AEW next week, but she wanted to honour her original booking.
