The word I've heard is that the Intrepid thing was planned from the get-go for Hogan so they could book him in a title rematch with Yoko, with Lex being moved over into the spot once it was clear Hogan was gone again.

Just doing Hulk v. Yoko on there would make sense. Rather than a body slam challenge.

Has Bret commented on Tiger King yet? “No one ever popped a boner watching a tiger murder”

Bret needed a Vince father like figure in WCW, someone who knew everything about the company and would personally encourage you about the future and sell you a vision. Emotional bond.
Rather than Eric Bishoff who was like a headteacher at a school who didn't know all the kids, but knew his favourites.

Ok, I've had too many beers to do it tonight, but I will defend this point. Hogan v. Andre and it's storyline threading would lead to a logical conclusion of Hulk vs. Bret.
Call me out. I promise I'll do it tomorrow. I can connect all the dots to make 1987 make sense in 1993.

Bullet points. - Andre faces Hogan at Mania 3 - This leads to the Main Event - This leads to Mania 4, Savage is the guy - MegaPowers form. - MegaPowers explode - Hogan carries on, Savage is now a mad King - Underneath this is Bret Hart, tag champion in 87 and 90. - Mania 7 arrives and Savage is done, reunites with Elizabeth - Savage returns to the ring, wins title at Mania 8, Bret is now IC champ. Hogan leaves - Savages drops to Flair - Bret unceremoniously defeats Flair, f***ing match isn't even on TV, I hear about the switch on the radio. - Yoko defeats Bret, Hogan defeats Yoko. Bret seriously suffered from never beating a WWF "guy". Flair wasn't one. Hogan is the old guard, Bret is the new, he's racked up 2 IC and tag titles and a WWF title, more than Hogan ever did. He needs to prove himself. Hogan needs to prove he can still defeat a younger opponent. Match is on. Bret wins.

I don't think Vince would have wanted Hogan to lose to Bret because I don't think he ever had confidence in Bret to begin with. He only got the strap initially in 1992 as a "who's left?" exercise which apparently came close to giving it to Tito Santana for the love of God. Vince didn't hesitate taking it off him 5 months later at Wrestlemania in 1993 and even then he tried Hogan then tried to create Hogan 2.0 before finally resigning himself that he had no other option but Bret. Vince only ever jobbed Hogan out clean once and that was to Warrior, a guy who he had at the time 100% confidence in being the lead man in the company who had been selling out house shows off his own back without Hogan's support for well over a year to that point. That isn't where Bret was, that wasn't where he had been and it wasn't where he ever will be. So quite apart from everything else I'd have my doubts as to whether Vince would have really wanted to put Bret over Hogan especially as at the time he foresaw Hogan being a rarely used special attraction. Got to keep special attractions special, pal! Vince green-lit Hogan going over active-roster member Shawn Michaels in 2005. Vince in 1993 was 100% not going to ask Hogan to lay down for a guy it was already self-evident Vince himself was having second thoughts about his suitability to be 'the guy'

So yeah Vince was clearly considering it. He wouldn't waste time with using WWE crew and photographers if it was just in Brets head.

Listen to the pop when they faced off during a Survivor Series match in 1989? Whatever year it was. Guys would kill for that pop now.

Listen to the pop when they faced off during a Survivor Series match in 1989? Whatever year it was. Guys would kill for that pop now. Crazy thing was that Bret says he and Savage were wrestling at that time on tours and house shows. Stick that on a PPV and it would make huge money
