Even though I know other people have this opinion I'm going to count it since the character has a notable fanbase - Jason Todd should've died in Under the Hood. He was good for that story but ever since writers have basically just been awkwardly fumbling around trying to find something for him to do and some reason for him to still be Batman's greatest failure, except when they're cool with each other. He basically hasn't done anything worthwhile since being resurrected beyond that initial story.

Scott Lobdell is virtually the only guy at DC who gives a damn about Jason.

Speaking of films, I have one: Batman '89 is one of the most boring movies I have ever seen. I've been able to get through it once and even then I can't remember half the shit that happens. It's bizarre because the casting of Batman and Joker was on point but it's just so hard to sit through. As far as I'm concerned the Burton/Shumcaher films started with a bland, boring film and just got worse and worse. Ugh, Batman '89 suuuucks. I actually genuinely think it's the worst Batman film, simply by virtue of it being so goddamn boring. The aesthetic of Gotham is SO good, but that's literally the only good thing about the movie to me. But where you and I differ, is I think that the movies got significantly better after that. Returns is completely insane and only barely has a plot, but I think that works to its advantage. It's just a beautiful movie aesthetically, and literally everyone in it is insane. It's so much fun. And I will always be a Schumacher Batman apologist. Both of his movies are dumb as hell, but they are the most fun kind of dumb, and everyone who hates them so aggressively takes them too seriously, I think.

I somewhat agree and disagree on the Gotham from Burton's films... it's got the gothic aesthetic alright... but it's small claustrophobic... and very obviously a soundstage and not a city. it gets worse in Returns where Gotham seems like its' 3 blocks big.

Kind of a segway from my Green Lanter/ Green Arrow post but while most of Scott Lobdell's new 52 work was awful, I still believe that trucker hat Arsenal/Roy is one of the better things to come out of post rebooted DC and may favorite version of the character. Focusing on Roy's problems with addiction and need of Jason and Starfire as a support system, and doing it in a realistic and empathic way is something you still don't see very much in comics.

There’s stuff in Batman Forever I feel can be taken seriously, as goofy as it is. I think the Nolan movies are a bit wacky in their own way as well, but I always appreciated Schumacher’s work even when I was clowning on B&R.

I like Batman Forever - certainly not as much as the Burton movies, and it's largely being carried on Jim Carrey's back - but really even on an ironic level I just kind of can't with Batman & Robin. I liked it as a kid but any time I've tried to watch it an adult I just find it a crushing bore to get through. Once you get past all the hamminess it just drags really hard.
