Peter Weller. Robocop was his commercial peak as a lead actor. The Hong Kong Cavaliers would disagree with this assessment. And Leviathan (not Batista) Basically John Carpenter's The Thing, but underwater. A modest hit. Only memorable for Amanda Pays being smoking hot in it.

As harsh as it is to say, all of the other big films Weller headlined were commercial failures. They have cult followings, but never made their money back or mad the cultural impact Robocop did.

Adriana Caselotti was the voice of Snow White, then did a one-line voiceover in The Wizard of Oz and had an uncredited role in It's a Wonderful Life as a singer. So, she starred in one of the most influential movies of all-time, her only other two credits were also in classics and she's practically unknown. Didn't Walt Disney buy her contract so he could have the rights to her voice, and then never use her again?

Michael Jordan
he knew he achieved cinema perfection with Space Jam, that he didn't need to star in any more films

For the record Cimino actually wrecked United Artists, not Columbia, in 1980 with Heaven's Gate. It's wild but an online film buff friend of mine (the late Allan Fish, look his reviews up on the net if you want) insisted that Heaven's Gate was this unrecognized masterpiece superior to The Deer Hunter, but I have never had the courage to seek out the director's cut to find out. It is 216 minutes long! Michael J. Fox was somewhere in the top 15 box office stars every year from 1985-91 according to the Quigley poll. He was 4th in 1985 (Back to the Future, duh), 11th in 1986, 3rd in '87 (Secret of My Success), 14th in '88, 6th in 1989, 11th in '90, and 13th in 1991. Speaking of that era I noticed Steven Seagal did have one year where he was a top 10 box office star (1992). Under Siege was really his only true mainstream hit, as in something casual moviegoers outside of action flick diehards might go see. Chuck Norris hit the top 10 once as well in 1985, but he was #22 for several years in the 80s. If you want the peak of action movie wackiness 1985 is your year, with Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and Norris all in the top 10 box office attractions. Also add in the likes of Eastwood and Ford, who certainly were action movie actors as well. Ive seen many Norris fims but i doubt anything will top Delta Force , that was the best of Chuck imo (came out in '86 though - but still)

We're considering Welles a one hit wonder due to Kane? The Magnificent Ambersons is also well regarded, he was in The Third Man, Touch of Evil, etc. Actually Kane wasn't even a hit. If we want to discuss his only major commercial hit that would be The Stranger, where he directed and also played a Nazi war criminal being chased by Edward G. Robinson. How have we gotten this far without a mention of George Lazenby? While On Her Majesty's Secret Service wasn't as big of a hit as the Connery films it still did quite well and he could have come back to the Bond role but he didn't bother. I can't think of much else he did other than a joke bit in The Kentucky Fried Movie. I think Laz wouldve been a bigger star had Game of Death come out in '74 , i see no reason that Game wouldve flopped , kf films were red hot then Man from HK and Queens Ransom are all right films

Do we want to count Kerry Conran for this? He directed Sky Captain and the World of the Tomorrow, and that's about it beyond a Coke commercial. I know Sky Captain was a commercial failure, but it did do well critically and has a strong cult following, you'd think that'd be enough for someone else to give him another shot.

"Does Michael J. Fox count? He had a hit TV show in two decades"
Locklear : Dynasty , TJ Hooker , MP & Spin City....then not much

They tried to make these into Hwood stars :
Ron van Clief
James Ho aka Bruce Li (he lost hope after his wife died)
Lam Ching Ying (his english wasnt good enough)
----------------------------------------
Bond girls :
Honor Blackman did do some work in Hwood
Rigg did Snow White for Cannon so thats technically Hwood
Carole Bouquet never did anything big except Bond , major star in France though

Honor Blackman was already a veteran English actress that had been in a ton of stuff going back to 1947. She was pushing 40 by the time she was in Goldfinger. She and Diana Rigg were both on The Avengers. I think Rigg replaced Blackman.
I was trying to think of someone that was a true one hit wonder and here's one: Robert Williams. He did a couple of supporting roles before landing the male lead in Capra's Platinum Blonde in 1931, which could have made him a star except he died of peritonitis (which is abdominal inflammation) 3 days after the film's release.
From the same year: Edwina Booth was set to become a star in Trader Horn (as The White Goddess....yeah) but she got malaria and a bunch of other ailments filming in Africa and was basically out of films for 6 years, sued MGM, and never really had any momentum after all that.

Maybe some of our beloved Brits have a better answer to this question:
Has Ian McDiarmid been anything BUT The Emperor?

Maybe some of our beloved Belts have a better answer to this question: Has Ian McDiarmid been anything BUT The Emperor? I believe he is mostly a stage and TV actor. BUT yes. He was in Sleepy Hollow, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and a few other movies.

I want to say Luc Besson. The Fifth Element is a classic, but afaik none of his other movies were big hits or classics. Léon (aka The Professional), La Femme Nikita and The Big Blue are all highly thought of There's.............this other one, too: (He wrote and produced all 3. They're his films as much as anyone's.)

what about a no-hit wonder
Andy Kaufman
he had a small role in cult film God Told Me To, which is still not terribly well known, and a supporting role in In God We Trust
is first (and only unless you count My Breakfast with Blassie) was the critically panned and flop Heartbeeps, having seen it I don't believe it to be any misunderstood classic or anything

Peter O'Fallon?
Dude bites off of Tarantino with Suicide Kings, and then drops into tv obscurity.
