I remember growing up on Sonic SatAM. Hell, I got the full series on DVD when it came out (I gotta find that in my collection here somewhere).
But I was always fond of Princess Sally. I felt she was probably the true leader of the Freedom Fighters, while Sonic was either her co-commander, or second in command.
It led me to the Archie Comics, which I collected until I believe about issue 148, and then I lost interest in collecting them. But I still kept up on it every now and then.
I always felt the Freedom Fighters were a group of quality characters that Sega didn't grasp upon, because of whatever reason of theirs. Which is a shame.
But the comics weren't always perfect, there were a few odd stories and hiccups here and there. But there were two points that made me angry.
1) Sonic #47: ENDGAME: It turned out fine in the end, as Sally didn't die from her fall. And while I now know that war is hell, and that comic books will kill off characters left and right basically because they can, as a child, I couldn't fathom them killing off Sally. And then reading online that the original storyline was that Sally would actually start acting weird, causing Sonic and Sally to break up. Then, Dr. Quack would reveal that this Sally was a robot duplicate, and that the real Sally died from her injuries from the fall. Which made me glad they didn't go that route. However, 87 issues later....
2) Sonic #134: The Breakup: So, after a 3 issue story with Sonic floating around in space after destroying the Quantum Dial of the Xorda, Sonic returns home to Mobius. Only to find out he's been gone for a year, and they defeat Robotnik/Eggman again. But he gets injured in the fight, causing Sally to suffer a bit of PTSD from remembering Sonic's "death" a year before. Then in issue 134, she asks him to stop fighting in the war, but he says no, and she snaps at him, breaking up with him. Which made no sense, character-wise, for her. She's been fighting this war for 10 years. She knows the risks. And I remember seeing a page in another comic prior that Sonic asked her about their relationship, and Sally was more about fighting the war against Robotnik.
And then I think about the common denominator between the two (Ken Penders), and I'm like, "Why....why do you hate this pairing so much, Ken?"

Sally's pretty much the only Freedom Fighter character I liked, tbh.

I appreciate you reviewing the Archie continuation, it's earned it, the dedication to the writing and the artwork from those involved is above and beyond what these fan works often result in. Do you follow the Fleetway Sonic comics? They have an online continuity that carries on where the UK Sonic title ended, it's been going steady since 2004. I know *of* the Fleetway Sonic, but I haven't extensively read through it. If I recall, UK's Golden Sonic is out of his mind, right? Yeah, Super Sonic is a twisted and violent alternate personality, very much Sonic's equivalent to Hulk only with the attitude of Carnage. Amy crushes considerably less on Sonic also, her closest friend in the title is an original character called Tekno the Canary, the writers had intended to eventually pair them up. There's a story set in the future (written by one of the comics' original writers) where they're both mothers to an adopted child

If DC can't just simply commit to BrucexSelena without f***ing it up, writers keep flip flopping on if Dick is with Band or Starfire, and some EiC has a hate-on for married Spider-Man, then what chance does Sonic have?

It's got a fanbase, but Dick hasn't been with Kori in the comics more or less since they broke it off in the 80s, although you're right in that they never truly commit to him being exclusively with Babs. Peter and MJ are presently back together in the Spider-Man comics, and it's looking like they're going to address One More Day again and at the very least create a future opportunity for their marriage to come back once Quesada and company clear off. Bruce and Selina are definitely ones that they need to stop crapping on. It's in a weird place and nobody knows if it's canonically endgame or not.

It even has a retro 90-style animation error (which probably isn't intentional)

On twitter, they're starting to drum up hype for more announcements, I imagine the trailer they teased isn't too far away now.

It always struck me as odd that they would make Naugus the primary villain. He’d appeared in all of one prior episode, and without much explanation for his story at that. He hasn’t even really featured in the Archie comics much yet at that point. Knuckles at least already had an established story.

Just doing my usual part. They asked for this to be retweeted/shared. A bit of a "how we started/how we've come" post in regards to the animation. Nothing all that new. They just want Sega's attention. They're still teasing a big announcement. twitter.com/TeamSea3on/status/1507157850828820493

Just a thought here, but since they have a trailer in the works, and next week is a big weekend for Sonic fans, would it not be a form of tactical marketing genius not just to drop the trailer on April 1st to coincide with the Sonic 2 movie, but also April's fools day, and somehow 'convince' the general public that it's a genuine return for Sonic Satam and then ride that momentum?
It's obvious this thing is going to look pretty professional so they might just get away with it.
