Below is a quote from Andrea Agnelli, the present of Juventus regarding Atlanta (who beat Juve this weekend and are on course to qualify again for the champions league). "I have great respect for what Atlanata are doing, but without any international history, and with a great sporting performance, they had direct access to the Champions League. Then, think about Roma, who have contributed in recent years to maintaining Italy's [UEFA coefficient] ranking, which had one bad season and are out, with all the consequences that brings on an economic level. We need to protect investments" Here Agnelli makes clear that continental competitions should purely be for 'big clubs' specifically teams with considerable budgets and economic power. This horrendous idea for a Super League is the direct result of this thinking. He specifically states that sporting achievement, ina sport, should be secondary to financial needs. Jesus Christ, f*** you dude.

I’m just reading the changes announced for the champions league and its a mess of a system. They had a chance to out flank the ESL rubbish and they’ve done a Ronnie rosenthal on it.

To be fair the changes to the champions league were forced in by these big clubs and now they want to go super league instead. Rock and a hard place there.

Porto have refused to be part of this ESL too going by reports Below is a quote from Andrea Agnelli, the present of Juventus regarding Atlanta in March 2020 (who beat Juve this weekend and are on course to qualify again for the champions league). What a terrible outlook on how sport works, shameful. It really is a terrible point of view for a president of a major Italian football team to say out loud. To say it’s tone deaf would be insulting to tone deafness. Sky sports are reporting that the 14 other premier league clubs are holding a meeting tomorrow and the six haven’t been invited. They are reporting that the UEFA president on a call was “livid” and had a few choice words for those involved in this new league and he said he’s examining the legal options to ban players from international teams. I suppose UEFA can ban players from the euros happening this summer.

RB Leipzig confirmed they won't join. Bayern and Dortmund share the same sentiment, so they're out too. Even the lteral face of corporate cynicism in a league that shouldn't have it said nope.

So we have 12 named teams and they said there’s three more expected to join before this thing starts but why would three other clubs want to put their heads above the parapet after what they’ve seen in less than 24 hours ? And as for the five other clubs, why would any club risk getting banned from UEFA competitions for the sake of what only be a year in this ESL ?

My guess is that a few clubs were interested but decided to hang back to see how it went down first. I can definitely see PSG's owners being prime suspects for looking at the lay of the land. Also, wanna know a funny thing about the Premier League? When there's a vote on something, it takes exactly 14 clubs voting one way to make a decision.

Even if they've now come out and said no, I would imagine Bayern and Dortmund were two of the three. I'm struggling to think of many more who would consider themselves among the elite of European football. If not then maybe Ajax and PSV, possibly the bigger Portuguese clubs? Whoever it is, they would be very brave/stupid to make a public statement now.

Those other clubs took the foinavon approach and held back and waited for the potential fall out at the fence in front of them.

For the 3 big Portuguese clubs, FC Porto was the only contacted, on an informal basis, and all 3 have gone public in repudiating the project. EDIT: If I had to guess, Russian teams and maybe some sleeping historical like Dinamo Kiev might be enticed by this, but I don't think any other, non-big-money-owned team in this side of the old iron curtain would be interested.

Jurgen Klopp in 2019: "I hope this Super League will never happen. With the way the Champions League is now running, football has a great product, even with the Europa League. For me, the Champions League is the Super League, in which you do not always end up playing against the same teams. Of course, it's economically important, but why should we create a system where Liverpool faces Real Madrid for 10 straight years? Who wants to see that every year?"
Jurgen Klopp today: "My opinion didn't change. Obviously I heard for the first time about it yesterday, and trying to prepare a game, a very difficult game against Leeds, and I knew so far we got some information, not a lot to be honest. It's a tough one. People are not happy about it, and I can understand that, but I cannot say a lot more about it because we were not involved in any processes, not the players not me, we didn't know about it. That's the case or the fact, the facts are out there. We will have to wait to see how it develops."

I feel that Klopp is in the same situation as all the other Managers and Players of the twelve, completely in the dark.

For the next month or so, Leeds become the heroes of the Premier League just because we have 3 of these in 4 games.
