Douki scored his first ever win, and it was basically only because Taichi and Zack hit their finisher and threw him onto Tacos Didn’t Douki beat Ren Narita in BOSJ last year?

One difference from last year is that I have a much better idea of what everyone will be doing at the dome.
This time last year? Wasn't so clear.

Kota deserves it for sure and if he manages to make it to the Dome him vs Naito will be a barn burner. I just hope they don’t try to kill themselves this time.
All that said, I think this might be the first time they actually switch the briefcase. I guess it depends on if they want to build White/EVIL for the Dome or if this story is gonna be a longer build.
As for Sanada, I think he’s definitely not suited for the current main event style. The finals match was good but definitely felt 10 to 15 minutes longer. He’s got a win over Naito though so I think he should challenge for the IC strap and win it to get those separate in time for the Dome.

As good as SANADA is, it still doesn’t feel like he has that extra magnetism that Ibushi or others in the main event scene yet, so I’m fine with Kota taking it back to back years. It was a great final if not the “instant classic” I felt his other finals with Tana and White were.
I guess Okada meant it when he said he wanted a break from the title picture. An Ospreay feud is good busy work- on paper, given al the controversy he’s involved in. I’d rather they’d give Juice (even though he’s an amazing face) this Empire push instead, since he seems to be trouble-free.

Be far better for him to continue with his babyface fire, he just needs something to work with that isn't the US belt.
You can argue that there's similarities between Ospreay's turn and Jay White's original CHAOS betrayal (aside from the fact Jay outright said it would happen day 1). It's well established that Okada isn't the Rainmaker if he's not the champion, so of course someone else from CHAOS is gonna smell blood.

Glad Ibushi won it, as he and Naito having a battle in the Dome screams WK Main Event. Plus this serves as a redemption, as the two-night Gold Dash last year screwed him over bad by the end.
Otherwise Power Struggle seems basically set. Sounds like a bunch of recent title rematches, Jay/Ibushi for the briefcase and Okada/Oka.
The G1 press conference is tonight, so we'll get some news relatively soon.

If you been paying attention at all to NJPW even just over the last two years you knew Ibushi vs Naito was coming
I said since the beginning, Ibushi was going to find his way to WK whether he won the case or beats Okada/White for it. Ibushi vs Naito relationship has always been next tier and them dudes always try to kill each other
Last year series of matches for the IC title proved they can do it and the trust in Ibushi since he signed with them has been more then solidified.
Ibushi will become the next IWGP HW champion

Regarding SANADA, I just don't think he's cut out for main event epics. His pace is so deliberately slow that when he has to do 30+ minute main events they always feel like a great 20 minute match hidden in 35-40 minutes of good but unspectacular.
I think he'd be great as a midcard face champion, say IC or US title, putting on 15-20 minute bangers as he hones his main event aura. The popularity is there, he's easily top 5 in the whole company in terms of support from the crowd- but I'm very much OK with him not being near the main event until he fixes this issue he has.

In saying that, NJPW and Gedo has an obsession with 30 min matches when they do not need to be EVIL is not a 30 min wrestler either but that doesn't mean he isn't a main event wrestler. Your matches should not and does not always have to be close to 45 mins to be epic Okada waste 15 mins of his matches so the 45 min classics aren't always fast paced

I’m curious about all the people saying SANADA doesn’t have IT yet. Surely, if he doesn’t have IT by now then he’s never going to have IT? It’s not like’s he’s fresh off of being a young lion.

Has Ospreay (and his girlfriend) been faced with any backlash for his actions from the Japanese media and fans? I get that he's been called out in the UK scene and that's most likely why he's staying in Japan right now, until things blow over... but has it been reported in the Japanese news and if so, what's the response been?

No, doesn't seem like it or they don't care They have big plans for Will and not letting that get disrupted unless Will does something stupid specifically in Japan

They can't claim ignorance on it, especially after the Ask ZSJ shambles. But they didn't really care about Elgin either, I think he walked.

If it doesn't happen in Japan, they don't really care You'll have to have people essentially in Japan care enough to push them out and even then, it has to mostly effect them personally It is a weird thing because as seen multiple times, if you get caught cheating on your spouse, you are on the shit list. It's just a culture thing

It's just a culture thing There’s also a translation issue where there probably aren’t the staff to cover those sort of stories or the interest for many international stories not related to their own talent. Like, getting news from Mexico promotions outside of headlines seems to be a real headache with mistranslations or lacking of real context so it seems to be the same for Japan. Not that it excuses anything but the cultural nature comes into it too.

It is very WWE of them of saying it didn't happen on our watch or we are just going to ignore it unless someone makes a big deal about it This stuff with Will should be cut and dry like it was Elgin. Both guys were allowed to continue to work and eventually Elgin was stopped being used as much but they are banking on Will because he has committed to them and it is going to take a lot for them to punish him much less get rid of him
